Question JBL & Stereo Review ?

I had subscribed to SR from about 1980-1992. Enjoyed the reviews - gear and music-. Found about 20 issues in a box in the garage last week and was leafing back through them.
Was struck by the fact that there are NO JBL reviews or even mentions. Its like JBL doesn't even exist.

Was there a feud going on ? Did JBL just not loan out review samples ?

    seems rather odd.

You need to go the the Macintosh guys site?? His name escapes me at the moment, Richard Russel?? In any case he has an index of reviews and there are plenty of JBL reviews available in that time frame.

I must have picked up the 20 that didn't have reviews of JBL (except computer speakers)

maybe - Russells site has the reviews for sale - he's collected these magazine for years and wants a minimal fee for a copy - I imagine that helps pay for his archiving costs ...

I hear you Seawolf, I subscribed during the same time frame. The last review I remember was the L100T and a short couple of paragraphs about the TI series and and the original L100 review as well. They are some there but few and far between compared to others.

Roger Russell's Index for Stereo Review, High Fidelity, and Audio magazine is located here with numerous JBL reviews:

I have an issue that reviews the L3. They gave it a positive review, as they did for everything.

I appreciate his service , but am wondering if it is legal to make copies of a copyrighted magazine for money ?

I distinctly remember an article on the Northridge series 12" 3-way in a comparison with a couple other makes.

Since we are on the topic of reviews...

Does anyone know if a magazine ever did a review on the 846B Altecs? I know of a 19 review, but have never found one for the 846B's.

    Thanks.

    -Storm.

Found this link via simply just highlighting the word “Altec 846B” and bingo.

Bugger me scroll down the page on this link and who’s that I see there handing out friendly advice.

Actually, it was the March 1985 issue of Stereo Review where I first learned about the JBL 250Ti speakers. A very impressive review. I still have that copy of the magazine and, of course, the 250Ti's!
