2461 Driver in a pro audio application

Dear Members,

I am wanting to build a SR4732 style of box for the nightclub using 2-12"2204, 2206's; 2441, 2445 on a 2380 horn; and a 2402 bullet.

I have found a guy here in Anchorage with 5-2461 drivers for sale at a great price. ($100 - ea.)

Question: Does a 2461 with a 2421 or 2425 diaphram meet this need, or am I better off going to a 2" driver?

I want to build four cabs for the big ballroom that will take care of the live theatre sound reinforcement; dance music; karaoke and stuff like that.

I will add more pix from my SR4719 subwoofer cabinets. Just put the primer paint on the baffles, yesterday.

Am I correct in assuming:

2410 motor = 2460 motor

2420 motor = 2470 motor

2440 motor = 2480 motor


Only difference being Aluminium vs. Phenolic?

Those two are not interchangeable. They have different gap depths.

it's actually the gap "width" since the top plates are the same thickness. I just put them side by side.

And of course the diaphram mounting screw locations...

For a double 12 two inch driver mid hi box I like the JBL 2385 horn. It is a 60 x 40 horn, the tighter pattern more closely matches the pattern of a 12 inch speaker at the crossover point. You may want to look at a more dedicated mid range speaker than a 2204 or 2206. Something with a higher efficiency through the mid range frequencies like the JBL 2020. I have my mid high cabinets loaded with the B&C 12PE32 speakers with a EV ND6X driver on the 2385 horns.

And if anyone's interested, I have two or three 2385A's in mint condition - $75 each, ($275 list), plus packing/shipping.

So I don't need any 2460's, 70's or 80's.

When I worked at Alaska Sound Labs, we used 2202 for a 12" mid driver in a BIG flared horn for the outdoor sled dog races, and then also in a trap cabinet using two 2202, 2441 on a 2309 horn, and two bullets. We used these hung with the cadillac rig and they sound worked great!

I guess I am thinking about that same style of cabinet, and a close proximity to those parts. (motto: go with what you know)

I look at the SR line and the 4850 line of trap himid cabs and see JBL's same thinking. All in all, I want these cabs to be filled with JBL parts. (I am kind of weird that way.)

I am looking at an ebay buy it now of a 2445/2380 or 2385 horn combo out of Vegas for $300 each that looks tempting, but money is tight at tax time, and am forced by Lisa to hold off. (She is in charge of fiscal health)

My other consideration was 2- 15's in a trap cab, similar to the 4733.

For a mid hi cabinet I would stay with the 12's. They sound better covering the mid range frequencies than a 15.
The 2202 would be a fine mid range driver direct or horn loaded.
