    building a B460

    Hi!
I'm planning to buy a pair of 250 ti's. I love their sound, but I'm used to high SPL horn speakers and I think that when played at high volumes, the bass isn't enough for me, and not deep enough either. So, I'm planning to build a pair of subs, and why not go for the B460?
I would be very grateful if someone could help me with specs and data so I can build my own B460's, the BX63 or any simular network included!

Thumbs up Re: building a B460

I've posted all that information on the forum several times now. You might want to do a search for B460, B380, BX63, etc.

Sorry, I should have tried that from the beginning!
I found what I was looking for, but should I highpass the 250 ti's or let their natural roll-off do the job?

    Thanks

Well, the 250Ti's, like their designer has stated numerous times, "go damn near to DC", so you might be waiting awhile for their natural roll-off

Options might include blocking off the ports or using something like a 6 dB/octave highpass filter. In your case, since you prefer high SPL, I would be inclined to employ the filter.

There was an article in Audio magazine in the mid 1980s by Greg Timbers and Lorr Kramer of JBL. They provided detailed instructions for home building the acoustical equivalents of the JBL B380 (15") and B460 (18") subwoofers, using the proper JBL drivers. Sorry I can't give a more specific citing at the moment.

I built a B460 knockoff from the plans, and used it for several years afterward. An old friend still has it pumpin' in his system.

    B460

Hi Jakob When you say you want to construct a B460 do you mean an exact copy??? If so perhaps i can help you out as i happen to have one with the BX63A crossover. It is in storage but maybe i can get at it in the next couple of weeks and do a series of photos like bo did with his 4345,s. Althought i should warn you the front of the cabinet has a slant back baffle board and a rounded top profile that you would have to recreate.

    Perfect!
Once again this forum comes to my rescue! Thank You guys!

John: it would be great if you could get some pictures for me, but don't hurry. It will take approx. 4-6 months before I begin building. Thanks in advance!

I'm scanning in my old copy of the B460 Product Design Brief right now. It should be up in the Library soon. It might be of interest, and it might not.
