These JBL 3678 theater speakers are interesting

    http://www.performanceaudio.com/cgi/...oducts_id=1255

These just have to sound good and might be the best $2000 one could could spend on new turnkey speakers today. If I were in the market for speakers I'd be thinking real hard about these, Hell, I am anyway.

I could put these in the HT and move the Nineteens down to the frontroom......

Tom - you could build those yourself in a better-looking integrated package for less, as several other members have similarly. I'm thinkin' John W, Hamilton, others.

I sure like the concept of biradial "ambience" for home theater; 2226H wouldn't be my woofer of choice, tho. Those guys built with LE14s:

I think it was Subwoof built the originals out of L220s [poetic justice, Tom, ] though I'm not finding that link right now.

If $2000 is your budget, you could step up to Be-diaphragm 2435s on PT wavegudes, too....

orig post did say "new" and "turnkey", but unless one needs that shallow profile (might indeed) there are other JBL options that may entail different tradeoffs, still within that price
range 4622N is about the same price (B&H Photo), for example. DIY w/new or used
    parts is another story...

$2000 is "Mighty Good" two-way DIY territory.

[I obviously don't know what "turnkey" means anymore.... ]

Anybody know what the "o" means on the inductors? Is that the outside of the winding?

normally a "dot" would indicate relative polarity for coupled inductors or a transformer
winding... since these appear to be independent inductors, it may simply be for
assembly purposes, as I believe you are suggesting. -grumpy

Actually I'm looking at building a system using the following items I have inhouse: 2226J/2426J/2344/3677 cabinet

I think it was Subwoof built the originals out of L220s [poetic justice, Tom, ] though I'm not finding that link right now.

That was another option I have since I have 2235H/L200 cabs
When I had my 4430's, they were not tube friendly with my SE amps running less than 10 wpc. So I thought someday I would use the 2226 as it is just effecient enough for my tube amps to run.

Will be in the future as I am busy with other things right now that can't wait.

    Regards, Ron

They are cored inductors. They are wound on a ferrite or iron core.

From my experience the core is indicated by the lines next to the turns. I have never seen the "O" before.

    hey!

i just stumbled over the 3678 speakers on a german website, and they sell for 1364€.
i tend to think that thats not bad at all, comparing to hifi-products in the same price range. now, what would i do with this speakers?
i would turn the box upside-down, put in a 1o" jbl midfrequ.driver (like 2123) and conrol it, of course, digitally active. close the bassreflex, and compensate it with solid power.
    could work!

heres the picture of the original, just imagine the 15" swapped to the bottom and a 1o" above it (maybe imagine blue paint on the baffle, too...).

    cheers,
    mikey

I really don't see the appeal. It is a 4430 with a bit higher sensitivity but it gives up bass extension and linearity. Maybe for a theater where loud is key and you will be using subs anyway, but...

Which is exactly why I didn't go that route.

I'll betcha they'd pass the Ben-Hur test with flying colors.

I'm listening to CS-3115s with 2226 woofers now, the box isn't that large and the bass is very satisfying to me. If you want to buy something, rather than make something, it seems a simple, cheap and reasonable way to go.

On the other hand I'm just a'guessin' ya understand, having never heard them.
