sub's for k2-s9800

Hi.
I have the K2S9800.
To my ears A very fine speaker.
But they only go down to 45hz. 35hz -10db

I wouldt like to built a sub, but i will use the same woofers as in the K2s9800 (1500al)

Is there any one who can give me som pointers to how the boks shouldt look, and how big.?
And maybe closed or ventilated boks.?

Do you find you are not getting enough bottom end in your room or is it the speaker's specifications that don't go deep enough for you?

I've talked with merlin a bit about this and he finds that in his home, and room size and construction in general, a single 1500AL is quite sufficient to get the job done without adding a sub.

In my 605 cu meter room, I found a single 1500AL in a cabinet tuning similar to the K2-S9800 didn't cut it. I found two approaches that worked well for me. The best approach was to use a pair of 1500ALs per channel both essentially tuned like the K2 and add several dB of DSP boost at 30Hz. The alternative which was almost as good... very close really, was to add a single Sub1500 per channel at ~50Hz. I ended up staying with this solution later as my system evolved because I preferred the 3 cu ft required for the Sub1500 over the 9 cu ft required for the pair of 1500ALs.

I'm still wondering why he would want to choose the same driver in the K2 to use as subs. If the K2 only goes down to 45hz and 35 -10 db it seems not a good choice. He should get the response curve on the driver and if it does not play any lower than that it is futile correct? No matter how big the box is. I would think seeking a driver with a lower free air resonance would be a better way to go if he wants to go passive, with external power??

well, to be honest...
I don't actualy miss anything in the buttom end.
But I can stop thinking, how it wouldt sound with an
extra woofer.
And it wouldt be obvious to use the same woofer, and maybe
let them work at different freq.

I have both the W1500H (1500 Array and HB5000) and the 1500AL (K2-S9800). Use a W1500H if you can get one. It's less expensive and works better than the 1500AL for VLF. Best bet would be to simply buy a 1500 Array or two.

Thats insane - according to the JBL home website, even tho I live just south of Wash, DC,
I have to go to Paramus NJ to go hear an 1500 Array ! Betcha that won't happen anytime soon (!)

I'm with you on that. I would like to hear the 1400 Array's and I have to go to California to do it. There are no dealers in AZ. Bummer!!!!!
