    enclosure design and transducers choice

What do you think about that idea of design :

per enclosure : (I have all parts in great shape )

2 2213H (vented box) from LF to 250Hz
    1 2118J from 250Hz to 1500Hz
    1 LE 85/HL91/2308 from 1500Hz to 7000Hz
    1 077 from 7000Hz to UHF
    LX10 X-over (1500Hz)
    3105 X-over (7000Hz)
    5234 active X-over at 250Hz/12dB (biamp for 2213H)

(My listenning room is unfortunately not so large so I can imagine more larger speakers for bass ...)

Any suggestion is welcome (volumes, port tuning and alignements, ...)

I don't believe you will be happy with using standard crossovers. This design will require network tweaking.

Thanks for reply and sorry but how do i delete a thread ?

Regarding X-over cutoff frequencies that i'm thinking is :

bass (2213H pair) low pass filtered at 250Hz/12dB by 5234 active X-over
midrange (2118J) hight pass filtered at 250Hz/12dB by 5234 active X-over
plus low pass filtered at 1500Hz by network tweaking
high midrange (LE85 HL91) high pass filtered at 1500Hz by LX10
plus low pass filtered at 7000Hz by 3105
treble (077 slot) high pass filtered at 7000Hz by 3105

(I know it would be better to cross 077 above 7000Hz but I'll probably do later ...)

    No, NO!

    Let the idea be discussed!

I want to hear about dual 2213Hs.

[Gordon designed a sub with them previously here....]

No no - he HAD posted this twice - folks replied to this one and I asked him to delete the other one (a dupe) - but apparently a Mod (as opposed to a Rocker??) deleted it ...

Only one now - this is it - Be Here Now!

The enclosure will get fairly large, with two 2213H woofers per channel.

The minimum box size I'd use (and it should work well, in my experience using one woofer in a similar volume per woofer), would be about 4 feet tall, 14.5 inches wide and 18 inches deep. This will give an internal volume of about 5.5 cubic feet. Vent the enclosure to a frequency of around 27-28 Hz or so, with TWO 4 inch diameter vents (one per woofer). Should be around 14 inch or so, length vents. You'll need a pipe elbow (standard hardware store PVC pipe elbow for 4" plumbing pipe will work fine) to make the vents fit.

Your crossover points sound fine to me, except I agree about increasing the 077 crossover point to 8000 Hz. Should be relatively easy to balance... the only chore will possibly be bringing down the upper end response of the 2118 just a bit; they tend to have rising response. However, with a combination of "gapping" the crossover between the 2118 and horn mid a bit, and lowering the electrical Q of the lowpass on the top of the 2118 (both should be accomplished by simply using a larger-than-normal inductor value on the lowpass of the 2118), should go a long way toward taking care of it.

You will need either a BEEFY amp to run parallel 2213s on bass (they're like a 6 ohm load each; two in parallel would be around 3 ohms), or, you might experiment with running them in series. If you design the enclosure for seperate air chambers (and port per chamber) for the 2213s, this should be fine...

    Regards,
    Gordon.
