JBL MPA 1100 - Usable for hifi subbass?

    Hello

Is the JBL MPA 1100 usable for hifi high end subbass applications?
For example, would it power 4 of the JBL 2245H without problem?

Would it make it very well ?

Oh, you must have notification set up?

I briefly responded that according to your posted specs that amp would never handle four 2245H's, it would need to be at least ten pounds heavier to do that. I was just amusing myself as usual, then I deleted my response

    Sorry!

These amps look pretty decent to me. Do you have any lined up or are you just looking right now?

    Hello Giskard!!

My English is not wery good all the times så... Please
    have some patience with it

Well well, actually, NO Iīm just looking and today in the
Swedish ads there was an MPA 1100 for aprox 800$ so
i just wanted to hear if anyone here has anything nice
to say about this huge amp.

I now have two NAD S200, and they are 30 kilos each - big
amps. I plan to use these with the midbass, to drive the
2234 or if i go with 2235 from 50hz and up.

NOW - just looking for subbass -amps, and run into this 1100.

Be advised that it is a fan cooled amp. I have found that I can not stand any of the fan cooled amps for critical music listening.

I do use the MPA600, the little brother of the MPA1100, in my home theater and am very happy with it. Powering a pair of 2235Hs per channel I can get the clip lights to illuminate on occasion. The MPA1100 would have almost 3dB more headroom.

can you clip the 2235?? with the 750 amp?
what happens when it clips? do you hear something?

    i thought to drive 4 - 8 2245 with the 1100 in an
    BIG hometheater

would the 1100 not handle this?

    I have heard this amp!

It is a heavy amp with a big power supply and will handle nominal 4 ohm loads without strain. It is a decent sounding amp for sub bass. It has been used in mostly pro applications, although I think, other then the fan, it should sound very good for what you want to do!

Actually after you clip it a few times with your 4-8 2245s I doubt you will hear much!

Giskard why do your posts evaporate?

If I am playing a film above THX reference level with information below the loading of my boxes and the >600WPC amp clips, you hear the woofers bottom out. If the amp clips with music you don't hear it. This is either because the lights come on conservatively a bit before actual clipping or more likely at these SPL peaks it is hard to hear the brief momentary increase in distortion.

You can clip any amplifier with any load. You can clip a 1000WPC amp on a little Bose speaker. Of course the speaker will immediately melt.

When I clip the MPA 600 through my four 2235Hs I am asking them to play just a bit louder than I should. They are rated at 150WPC, but they have no problem with much more power for brief amounts of time. ie. musical peaks.

BTW In my fairly large room it is damn loud!

Aha FOUR 2235, ok så thats the setup.
Then the 2245 has some more output db sensitivity,
    and can handle more power...
