Is there any difference between the two? Or did some models have the word "Century" and others did not, a marketing ploy.
Thanks in advance for your responses.

:dont-know First I've heard of either model...
There were actually 3 versions of the JBL L100 Century. The L100a, L100a (later version), and L100. All were very similiar, the only REAL difference would be the LE20 tweeter versus the LE25 in the later models which go a touch higher, but not much. The woofers changed from the 123A-1 to the 123A-3.. The 123A-3 has a slightly less peaked bass response, but not much... The biggest difference is with the "newer" L100 networks, but still very subtle.
Here's some tech info on the latest Century L100..

Can we assume that these are your speakers??
Both L100a's used similiar networks and to me were virtually identical, the L100 was a little less detailed, but VERY similiar.
BTW< Welcome to Lansing Heritage! Its good to see another JBL fan...

If you have come here to learn, this is the right place!
Nice pic. When I meant latest, I meant oldest, sorry for the confusion.. Since he listed L100 Century, I assumed that this is what he has.
Well, it's not the one listed in the auction he cited:

My L100As also say "Century" on them, so that name is not definitive:

This I know, all too well, sorry again if I was misleading, I didn't check out the Ebay auction before I posted those schematics.. Thanks for posting the link...
Unfortunately we cannot assume to know what L100's he has. And until then, it wouldn't be fair to say if the Ebay speakers he mentioned would be the correct ones to match the ones he currently has. Not that there will be MUCH difference, but he may want them all to be exactly the same, or as close to the same as possible.
Registrar84<< after looking at the pics of the L100 variations, do you think you know which ones you have? Pics would be helpful if you can post some... Can we assume that you want a single speaker for a center speaker??
Hey guys, something I've always wanted to know, is there any difference in the sound between the L100a and the L100?? The networks are a little different.. Was this merely an attempt for JBL to compensate for the vertical alignment of the drivers?
Alas, L100s are not amenable to critical listening.
Any sonic distinction among the variants is forever relegated to the realm of theoretical esoterica.

Is there a REAL difference between the vertically aligned L100 with the LX12-10 Networks versus the L100A with the N100 networks. Like I said, on paper the schematics are quite different as are the crossover frequencies. And as I asked before, was this merely JBL's attempt at getting the vertically aligned L100 to be the acoustic equivalent of the 4310?
