    Altec "stonehead" DIY project

Hi, this is my father's Altec Stonehead DIY project.
He is 50+, and a litlle crazy in the head (I thought for a long time).
We experimented with differend drivers and crossovers for nearly a jear, build a pair of nice cabinets, and so here we are. The top is made of Belgium Granite.
For LF we use the Altec 416-8b, for mid Altec 808-8b with Stereo-lab 500Hz horns, and for HF the JBL 075 ring radiator. They sound pretty good.

    Dirk

you may well be right about him being crazy- most people have the roof outside the house. Looks like a super job on the speakers though

    the sound

    Hi, thanks for your reaction.

-macaroonie you may well be right about him being crazy- most people have the roof outside the house.

it was my grandfather who build that roof in our basement, he was a bit like my father.

-SEAWOLF97Do they sound good as they look ?

Yes they do. Fisrt there was a sort of Altec/JBL competision in our house. I have a pair of JBL L220, and my father is a "Altec man". Until 6 months ago my JBL's were the best sounding speakers in the house. Then one day my father bought a pair 416-8b LF speakers and I changed/upgraded his crossovers. Now the sound is warm and open, the 808 drivers sound realy well.
