Well I scored a working little single ended 6BQ5 amp from an old console. Got the whole thing for $5. I'm currently rebuilding the amp into a little enclosure with new components. It looks pretty nice so far. I will post pics in another post when I finish it. It's probably about 5-7 amps max. Should be plenty for a pair of vintage Altecs though.
I gutted the remainder and opened the front with hinges and a little handle and use it for my new stereo cabinet - very retro. I guess it doesn't take much to keep some of us amused.
