    Dismantling a 4647 LF Enclosure

Here's a riddle for the handy folks out there...any advice on how to best dismantle a 4647 LF Enclosure for shipping via US Postal System. It's overall dimensions pass, but it is about 15 lbs too heavy after removing the 15" LF driver for shipping separately.

Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated. I am over here in Japan on a military base and have no other way of getting my low end from Arizona to my living room.

    Cheers

If you need find a regular shipper and crate it.
My advice for what its worth.

    4647 LF is 4507 enclosure, 58 Lb.

With creative packaging, it should go.

If need be, the 2x4 bracing could be removed, shipped separately, and replaced upon arrival....

Thank you, but here is the where I got the 80lb figure!

Thank you both for your help. If I had an extra $500--and the even more difficult to obtain spousal approval--I would ship DHL, but lacking them both I might have to follow Zilch's sage advice.

...however, the JBL PRO PDF attachment listed with this response shows the 4647 as weighing in at 80lbs without the driver. Is this correct? I am still waiting on the boxes shipping from the Tent Sale so I have not seen it myself.

Now, for you Monty Python fans out there, "was that an unladen swallow or a fully laden one?"

Thanks again for all you help.

    Thanks, John

    Dear Zilch

Sassuga! That's what we say in Japanese when an expert solves a seemingly intractable problem with ease. Looking at the 4647 specs, it does indeed indicate that the box is a 4507 box, which, as you pointed out, weighs 58 lbs. Problem solved. I guess I got confused looking at the 4647 specs that listed 80lbs as "enclosure weight" and then 101.5 lbs as the "net system weight." What in the world is "net system weight"?

Thanks a bunch Zilch for solving the problem. No hacksaw needed, OUCH!

No, according to the link, the enclosure alone weighs 80 and the system weighs 101, which would be right, as a 2225 is about 20 lbs.

    The "Sassuga!" may be premature.

[Somebody's gonna have to weight the thing, looks like....]
