    2404 VS 077

Can anyone tell me which tweter is better, the 2104 or the 077? Looking at the specs the biradial horn has better dispersion. Looks like it has a wider frequency range. Would the 2104 be a good choice to use as a compliment for an L200B? If so what frequency would you recomend to cross it at?

    Any help is appreciated

    Thanks

You mean a 2404?? It's a personal thing. I like the 2405 better and adding a 2405 to an L200B gives you an L300. No matter which one you use, you should cross them high say over 8k or so.

    You are right 2404

Here is the spec. So they are about the same? I scored a nice set for under $200. is that a fair deal?

    Thanks

I'd say it depends upon the dispersion of your midrange horn, particularly the vertical.

If it's wide in the contemplated crossover region, use 2404. If it's beamy, use 2405.

Standard L200B LE85 on HL91 has a rising midrange above 6-7 kHz according to my recent measurements. You'll likely want to be sure your UHF network knocks that down like 3105/6 does....

    Crossover help

Is it ok to just use the HF part of the crossover from the L300 schematic for the conversion with the stock L200B crossover? Or do I need a special crossover circuit?

    Thanks

That is the design mantra of the 4430... it is more complicated than that.

If you absolutely must have response below 8KHz you should consider the 2404... if you need response below 5KHz, are after a particular vintage sound, or need a really tight pattern you should consider the 2402.

If you will be using it primarily above 8KHz, the 2405 sounds significantly better than the other two and the dispersion be damned.... it won't kill your systems imaging. The sound of the 077/2405, when used properly is much less raspy sounding.

BTW: I edited the title of this thread... it now reads 2404

That's what the entire thread for adding 2405 using that circuit was about, Mike. You've got to also extract and add the part that shuts down the LE85 above the crossover frequency, and disable the NL200B's HF boost circuit.

If you want to do the L300 approach, just build Giskard's equivalent circut. L200B crossovers are of little use in this conversion; they were designed to a different purpose:

You may also want to figure a way to get the longer H92 horn in there. You'll need 14-5/8" behind the baffle:

You can use this to add the 2405. While you at it look at the the 1979 Components catalog in the Library.

Its never as easy as it might appear

I guess I am going to have to build the crossover after all. Just trying to speed up the process with stock parts I have lying around. Thanks for the input. Maybe I can free up some time over the holidays to get it done.

    Regards
