    4410A question - Zilch?

    Hey everyone,

Well, I never ended up getting those beat-up 4311's that I asked about last time because everyone recommended against them in my last thread. Still looking for speakers and came across an ad for some 4410A's for $200 Canadian.

    Here's the ad text:

JBL Studio Monitors - model 4410A with 10" woofers, this things really thud - $200.00, some scratches on cases and grills have a few broken posts, face and speakers are perfect.

All speakers have grills, they are pictured without so you can see the speakers.

and here's a picture of them:

    Is this a good deal?
Are the 4410A's really different from the 4410's that Zilch was recommending before?
Finally, will my Bryston 2B-LP (65 WPC) be sufficient to drive them?

    Thanks,

    Jesse

4410A is similar to 4410, but without level adjustment controls. The balance among drivers is fixed.

    65W will drive them easily.

The other major difference is the cabinets on "A" are charcoal grey finish rather than walnut veneer.

$200 is an excellent price assuming the condition of the drivers is good.

I believe you can still get new grilles from JBL parts.

To me, 4410(A) has a warmer sound than 4412(A). Very pleasant for home listening....

    thanks guys, great news.

are they older or newer models? i couldn't find a date of manufacture on the JBL vintage product pages but they looks 80's at least.

and hey, when people talk about JBL's standards falling off, when are they thinking of? 80's? 90's? or is that just for certain models?

4410A was made up through last year, I believe.

Quality "falling off" refers to primarily to the products available through consumer mass-marketing outlets, in my experience.

JBL still makes the good stuff, but you've got to know what it is, hunt it down and be prepared to pay for it....

Besides the other differences Zilch mentioned, they switched from the 035Tia HF in the 4410 to the 052Ti in the 4410A - same deal with the 4408/A and 4412/A.
