Nasty 4343's from Cinci

Hey Triumph Don: Here's the pics you have been waiting for. They don't really look like you remember them but maybe you'll feel some karma from having owned them before. My sound room is full now and a total clutter so I parked them temporarily in the wife's living room where I could steal some tunes from her Rockola. I'm glad they're done and back to life. Thanks Ken - I guess I'm a sucker for a beat up and trashed pair of old JBL's. Like a lot of guys out there, I can still remember seeing them NEW on the showroom floor in the 70's and 80's. Since we can't buy them new anymore (not that anyone could afford them at today's prices) the only way to get there is buy a beater pair and rub on them for a few weeks.

My wife thinks I'm trying to own and restore every beat up pair of JBL's on the planet. My kids are tired of hauling them up and down the stairs, storing them in their bedrooms and lifting them on and off my steel work table. I suppose somewhere along the line I may back off a bit but right now I'm in a groove and having great fun.

I like the way you've done the auxiliary base, answering the front bevel of the grille surround. If you don't mind I think I'll borrow some of that design for my 4345's

Hi Dave: I hate the thought of having any of my JBL's sitting on the hard floor. Try to find a pair of 43XX monitors that don't have the bottom trashed. I know that JBL intended to have these hung on sound stages but they could easily have provided an auxiliary base.

My base is non-attached as I didn't want to screw anything into the bottom of the cabinet. It's a solid frame 1 1/2" x 2" with 3/4" top with 1/4" felt pad glued to the top. The speakers just sit on them.

The 4345 was provided with an integral base so you're free to do anything you want.

¥es, but they need to be lifted and it's a question of how and what it's going to look like. Now I'm seeing something similar to yours only a few inches taller.

Ya Hey Derr - I follow you now. I did 6 inches on a pair of 4343's I had a while back and it was too tall - made the speakers look like towers. I went down to 3 1/2" and settled there. I'll find a pic and post it so you can see what they loooked like. They're kinda tall and skinny as it is. Let me know what you come up with.

I think the lower aspect ratio of the 4345 could tolerate six or eight inches (the latter being G.T.'s recommendation).
