    C3something Copy

I was inspired by the beautiful pair of C30s that recently came up for sale and decided to put some of my extra drivers to good use. The result is a smaller bookshelf version using a pair of 8in D208s, 035ti tweeters and a modified LX-8 crossover. The boxes outside dimensions are 16 5/8 w x 11 h x 9 5/8 d. There is one port 1 ¾ d by ¾ deep, which happens to be the thickness of the MDF.
The LX-8 crosses over at about 2khz. It was designed utilize the natural roll-off of an LE14, which doesn’t really work the D208. To compensate I added a 1.5mh air core inductor in series with the woofer to add a gentle 6db roll-off.
The results are surprising. I haven’t done any additional measurements on them, but to my ears they sound very good.

    Cute!

Probably sound better than your Bel-Aires... but I still covet them.

Yes a sub is a nice addition. The system I have these hooked up to has a 12 in sub.

    Efficiency differences?

Does the 035's keep up with the D208's?

I'm thinking the D208 is more efficient, not sure though.

They sure seem to. I will have to do a little measuring on the RTA and post the results. The best information I could find is that the 035tia has about 92db sensitivity and the d208 about 95db.

Seems like the figures are different in the real world!

3db difference, but with crossover setup are probably closer to the same when used in your room.

    I like the project idea!

I love the little teeny brass exclamation point emblems.
