    L-300 upgrade???

I have a set of empty 300 cabinets which I have a choice to install any drivers I desire. Would there be any advantage to installing a 375 with the L93 short horn in leu of the LE85 and the l92 horn?

I have an original set and they sound great. So I purchased the empty cabinets and almost have them restored, I have collected all the components to restore them to original, and also have the 375's and short horns for another project. I am just curious if there would be any advantage to this component change.

I welcome your opinions and comments. Dont be shy. LOL

    Thanks

You would need to try the 375 on the short horn to see if you like it at the 800 Hz L300 crossover point. In its 1976 products catalogue JBL stated that the H93 was good down to 500 Hz. I don't know if that is an error or if JBL thought the 375 was robust enough to be operated without horn loading, like a dome midrange.

boom whacka whacka ( crack )

I would be real cautious on loading the 375's with that short of a horn. it's real close to the cutoff and anything below that makes the diaphram move in unnatural ways..

If you are using the 077, stick wth the original long 2312 ( H92 ) horn and the 1" driver. You can use the more robust titanium since the crossover to the 077 minimizes the "trashcan" artifacts some claim to here ( I know I am gonna get flak for that one ).

If you need drivers, I have a pile sitting unused..

375 was commonly used down to 500 Hz in S8 systems.

On that short horn, it's behaving in large part as a direct radiator.

    Go ahead - try it.

Then tell everybody what it REALLY sounds like....

I used the 2441 (376) with the 2311 in my S-22-2. Very powerful combination, it's worth a try. Make sure you add internal support for the weight of the driver.
