L65 Jubal will be upgrade ?

    Hi
new to the forum , old time JBL enthusiast.

I have access to a pair of L65s from original owner, with original boxes , "refoamed by JBL"..etc for $400.

I currently have Ohm Walsh mains with L36 rears , also have L26, AR3, AR428ps, numerous a/d/s , JBL L100's in various systems around the house , all work fine.

question...I have heard about L65s for years...Are they goung to be a huge inprovement over what I'm currently using ? and in what regard ?

    thanx...TOM

    The slot tweeter.

You'll want to elevate them to ear level, tho, as the UHF is beamy in the vertical:

would there be improvement by rotating the 077s in the cabinet by 90 degrees ?

also have read about boominess (sp) ...would the woofers from the L100s be a worthwhile transplant ?

Then, they'll be beamy in the horizontal, a worse condition, I would presume.

It's gonna depend somewhat on your room and placement, not to mention your own listening preferences.

I've never measured L65. A driver swap is always an option, but it's rarely that simple; box retuning and possibly crossover adjustments may also be required for it to be "right." Boominess can be mitigated somewhat without changing the driver, as well.

There's a paper on boxiness and boominess in the June AES Journal....
