    2x15 cabs

Some time ago when I practiced the Bass guitar I made up two cabs utilizing info from the JBL website. One had a 2245H and the other had two E-140-8's. I am going to make a sub from the 2245H and this weekend pulled the E-140's from the 2x15 cab. I am hesitant to dispose of the cab because a lot of work went into it. I'm thinking "why not another sub?" What JBL 15's would do well as subs? would they interfear with the single 2245H?

    Hello
For the double 15 cabinet the JBL 2226 would be a good high power 15 speaker choice and assuming the cabinet was tuned for the E140 speakers the 2226 would drop in and work well. For true sub performance down into the 25hz area the tuning would need to be reworked. The JBL 2235 would be good choice for the double 15 sub but the cabinet would certainly need to be re tuned to use them. How big is the cabinet and how is it ported now. As for using the double 15 and your single 18 together as one sub woofer system it's generally not a good idea to use different driver types mixed together operating in the same frequency bands. A double 15 properly tuned and loaded sub would be better than a single 18 due to more cone area.

The ports are four ports 3 1/2 by 6" deep and the cab is 31x21x18

That's about 5.6 cubic feet. OK for 2226s or E140s, but not really enough for a pair of 2235s, for them to have good bottom-end extension.

It'd be about right for a sub cabinet with a single 2235... if you blocked off the other woofer hole, and tuned the enclosure much lower in vent frequency (ie, much longer vents)...

    Regards,
    Gordon.
