    HT for dummies

    Hello,
    Centre channnel
What I have in mind is an L112a turned on it's side.
    I've procured the 128h & 044, but the LE 5-12 seems elusive.
Are there other mids that will suffice? Compromise is my middle name.
I bought a pair of used L150a x-overs, but I noticed the part #'s for L112a is different? Why would passive radiators affect xos?
If I want to build a L112 cab on it's side, what driver arrangement?
What is the port length and diameter of an L112?
What about rears? (Not yours, the HT.)
    Al

    Make it like a 4411.

The different part numbers denote different crossover assemblies - different wire lengths for instance. The L96, L112, and L150A networks are functionally identical.

THe 4411 had a serious crossover network, very complicated. I think it is what set it apart from the 112, providing driver isolation better.

I've gone over all that in great detail. He'll have to do the homework himself from this point on.

    Hi Guys;
    This is an extraordinary forum.
A quick inquiry on the classified board brought lots of le5-12's out of the wood-work, thanks to 'blaster' from Ohio, a pair is on the way.
I guess I should have mentioned the horizontal L112A is meant to balance a L-R pair of L150A's. So the xo subleties of monitors vs. home stereo (now HT) prolly don't matter too much to me.
For driver placement, I'm thinking woofer centered, with tweet & mid on the top, either side, and the pots under the tweeter, and the port under the mid?
For rears, I've scored a local pair of Made in China 'JBL' type thingy's just to try this surround sound out. 100 wpc should make this a short-lived experiment.
Would contemporary L-15s make decent rears, or should I be looking for 3-ways like L-86, although the cabinet size is not much smaller than L112, and fitment becomes a problem.
Conversly, what about a speaker (has to be JBL) from a different era?
    Thanks
    Al

L15s would make fine rear speakers in such a system. Same tweeters, and same "family" of voicing.

I'd be hesitant about using an L20T (the later model). They're significantly "brighter" than the L112/L150. However, the L20T3 might work (they toned the tweeter down a bit, for those year models).

Otherwise, the the 4406 would also be good. They have adjustable tweeter levels, so matching them to the fronts should be a relatively routine matter.

    Regards,
    Gordon.
