    JBL VS. Klipshorns

Trying to decide between a set of L-300's versus a set of K' horns. Anybody have Experence with both and what are the pros and cons of each Brand?

Apples and oranges. The trend on this site will be toward the L300s, if you go to the Klipsch site it will be toward the K-horns. On the used market both speakers are in the same price range so that doesn't tell you much either.

Are you a sit in the sweet spot for stereo listener? If so getting a pair of corners and the right room can be quite difficult for the K-horns. In the right room though they can be pretty remarkable.

I have listened to several pairs of each over the years... it would still be a tough call for me. As for the JBLs I'd likely go with the 4333As over the L-300 as I am not crazy about the looks of the L300. For the Klipsch, I would love to get some of them in the ebony or rosewood veneers that were offered on special order.

Thanks for the reply, The only problem with The JBL's is finding a set for sale other than ebay. Located a set of K' horns for 1800.00 Pr. Any other places that might have some JBL's for sale? Thanks, Rich

It also depends on the drivers in the Klipsch. I had a customer that wanted to put JBL's in his La Scala's for max efficiency. He put in some E140's to replace the Klipsch/Eminence OEM drivers. He was quite pleased with the results. Much cleaner and dynamic. He ended up feeling he had the best of both worlds...what better way to improve a Klipschorn than with JBL drivers?

Yes I have a Klipschorn with all JBL components. The early 2205 woofers (with 4 pleats in surround) No longer can get that cone replacement kit. Mid unit is 2397 horn and 375 driver. The tweets are 2405 sitting on top of cabinets. Useing electronic xover. plus six monoblock amps.

In the mid 70's I chose the 4333 over the Klipch horn because the 4333 had more dynamics on "normal" listening levels ... and they did not require a "brick wall" behind them. And yes, I tried both systems in my home.

I had a piar of Klipschorns in tigerwood. I tri-amped them using a Yamaha D2040 digital crossover and a QSC 200 wpc amp for bass and two digital amps for mid and tweets. I use a benchmark DAC1 or AH CD player and Juicy Music Audio tube. Sounded amazing. The only speakers that I have heard (just me and I have not heard that many so please don't flame me) that bested them are B&W N801's (which I just bought).

As a replacement for the K Horns I am putting together a pair of K Horn bass bins, Altec 511B's with JBL 2470 compression drivers and 2404 tweeters. The guys over at the Klipsch forum are very pro JBL's, admitting that the EV stuff is not up to par. They are horn guys but appreciate better drivers and horns such as JBL and altec.

If you can get K Horns for $1800 pick them up. Go to the Klipsch forum and learn how to tweak them. If you don't like them you can get your money back or turn for a profit.
