More enjoyable ?? studio or Live ????

there have been some groups/individuals that I've really enjoyed their offerings , only to take a chance on one of their LIVE albums... to be disappointed.

got to pondering thru my experiences and came up with this classification....thots ?? (there are NO wrong answers - (except those that contradict mine ))

now b4 Phil comments that nobody listens to this stuff anymore, let me assure you that this list came right off my bike ipod

    Better live:

    Allison Kraus
    Pink Floyd
    Bruce Springsteen

    Better in Studio:
    Metallica
    AC/DC

This concerns the CD's only. Not the actual live performance.

In the "either way" I'd have to add John Mayer (Where The Light Is: Live in LA) and Johnny Lang (Live at the Ryman). Of course The Grateful Dead and Little Feat belong in this group, too (if you still consider "Waiting for Columbus" a live album with all of Lowell's fiddling with it).

The only Krauss album I listen to is her "Aiison Krauss and Union Station Live" (also at the Ryman), so I'd put her firmly in the "better live" column.

for years I thought QMS " Happy Trails" was a studio album , as its recorded so well...only to find out later than it was LIVE

Quicksilver Messenger Service released their eponymous debut album in 1968. It was followed by Happy Trails, released in early 1969 and largely recorded live at the Fillmore East and the Fillmore West. According to David Freiberg, at least one of the live tracks was augmented with studio overdubs and the tracks "Calvary" and "Lady of the Cancer Moon" were recorded in the studio just before Gary Duncan left the band.

but this wiki entry shows that it was mostly LIVE, but enhanced and supplemented in the studio.
