I love the Altec 604E, and the 604G was also a wonderful sounding speaker. I would try to get your hands on a pair of Mastering Labs crossovers, they are expensive, but do show up on ebay from time to time.

If your fond of the 604, also give the Urei 811A, 813A or 815A a shot. The A series was made using Altec Lansing coaxials, and the crossovers were time aligned.....along with a well matched cabinet. The 813A is my favorite of the series.

    Good luck, and happy listening.

I have found memories of the 813A myself. Here are a pair of 813C all JBL Ureis on eBay at the moment.

They look pretty nice. Local pick up only in New Jersey... Have you had a chance to compare the 813A vs. 813C? I expect they sound a bit different. The "C" version has a modified E145 woofer for the coax and the 2215H for the helper... both are VLF limited but both are pretty good in the punch department.

My father has the 813B's, and 811C's. I think they all sound great, but I havn't had them in the same room with the A's to give them a good fair A/B test. My gut feeling is that the C's have a little more midrange punch, but it could be the room / setup, and not due to the differance in the monitors. Wish I could be more helpful.
