    Need horn recommendation

I have a pair of these 2435HPL that have the uncommon 1.5 throat exit.
Beside for the "gigantor" JBL horns made for them, does anybody have any idears about something smaller ????

I know that P-Audio has something that looks like it would work.

    Guido has tried 2435HPL on P-Audio PH-316:

    http://audioheritage.org/vbulletin/s...6&postcount=16

He also has PT waveguides, but has not reported his "findings" yet.

I have posted polar response on the P-Audio horn as well as 1.5" JBL PT waveguides:

    http://audioheritage.org/vbulletin/s...ad.php?t=10784

Mr. Widget posted measurements with 2435HPL in the driver/horn study:

    http://audioheritage.org/vbulletin/s...ead.php?t=6050

Robh is working on the same thing:

    http://audioheritage.org/vbulletin/s...ad.php?t=10732

    Answer: Try PT-F1010 for 100° x 100° or PT-F64 for 60° x 40°.

I believe Stevem has a pair of PT-F64 he might sell to you.

Don't rule out the "Gigantor" 2352 in haste. 2435HPL sounds mighty good on them:

How do we go about buying these PTH horns ? I can't find them in the JBL pro site.
    Part numbers, prices ?

    PT-H1010 / PT-F1010 probably the best choice ?

Why does the PT-H1010 and the PT-F1010 have the same dispersion characteristics but different dimensions ?

    Thanks a bunch

Personally, I think PT-F1010 is the better choice, from all the testing I have done and reviewed.

    PT-F1010 = 338786-001 $83
    PT-H1010 = 338785-002 $84
    PT-F64 = 338735-001 $51

According to that, I'd probably like PT-F95 best, but they've never produced it.

    Tell JBL you want 338650-001.

[PM me IMMEDIATELY if they say they've got them.... ]

    Thanks Zilch !!!!

    Great prices on those PTH

Would you recommend the 2352 over the PTH models for over all smoothness of response ?

    PTH around $85.00, 2352 is $306.00 !!! Yikes

You keep saying "PT-H." That's the square one.

    I'm recommending the rectangular "PT-F."

<----- That's it in my avatar w/ similar 2431H mounted.

Yes, if you can make room for it.

    2352 is, well, "transcendent."

    I suspect it's because it's a big horn.

[500 hz cutoff, JBL calls them "Mid-size." ]

Yeah, and you gotta drill the 2352 flange to mount 2435HPL to boot....

    Sorry.....PT-H,..... PT-F.......WTF ??? Too many acronyms !!!

"Gotta drill the 2352 horn flange to fit the 2435HPL to boot ? "

You mean the bolt pattern is incorrect ?

Yup. 2352 was not made for the newer mid-format 3" diaphragm drivers like 2430. 2431, and 2435.

Tech support confirms the 1.5" throat Optimized Aperture horns are compatible with them, but some (like 2352) require a modified mounting bolt hole pattern.

The old Altec and sometimes available from Cannon Sound, 1.4"-2" adapters make great throats for mounting the 2435's onto the large format 2" horns. The adapters also need the mount holes drilled and benifit from a slight reaming of the input side to perfectly match the 1 1/2" exit of the driver. The resulting depth and flare rate are very similar to that of the 2440/2441/375 throat and perform outstanding on Smith horns and 2360's. I know people have claimed poor experiences with the 1" drivers adapting up to 2" horns. That is understandable as well as to be expected. The diaphragm on a 1" driver isn't even as big as the 2" hole needing to be filled with compressed (compression driver) sound. The 3" beryllium diaphragm effortlessly fills the void. Don't listen to me, try it for yourself.

I don't use them regularly. WAF is as about as small as they are BIG! They do however make an incredibly revealing test bed. If you can buy them reasonable, they're worth having just for the experience.
..... Mount them on the top of a pair of L200 cabs and LOOK OUT!

Does anyone have a picture of these in a home environment so I can get a feel for just how these look? I hear good things about the 2397 (?) Smith Horns - but originals seem to go for a pretty dear price ...

Heres a link for a pic from way back. 2360's on a double 15 cab standing next to a 4343 with a Smith on top. Someplace around here is a pic of me with my head stuffed in one. That really puts things into perspective... Do a search for 2360, you'll find all kinds of neat stuff. They're big, but they sound SWWWWWWWEEEEEETTTT...

So has anyone done an objective test of the 1.5" 2332 horns as used in the DMS-1 studio monitors and a couple pro systems? That one doesn't require any throat modifications, (but is a smaller horn).
