    Prototype boards

    When I make a crossover prototype, I cut a piece of hardboard to size and screw on some old terminal strips as pictured. Is there a better way?

    I use these white terminal strips instead of having to solder -
    Terminal Strips, Barrier Block

    And here, is an example of his fine work on a 3113B, repleat with bypass caps...

    Hmm, somebody once offered to craft me a pair of these, on a planet long, long, ago...

    Hi Bo,

    I'm embarking on testing a new cap/coil combination and until that evaluation is completed I would like to hold off on building any networks. One of the systems I will be using for evaluation will be the 4313B (Imagine that!).

    The picture you posted is indeed a 3113B. Never mind the N96 stamp on the 2.5 mH air core . Every N96 I've owned ends up rebuilt as a 3113B . You might notice that the output is set up to run directly to the L-Pads and then to the drivers. The 3.5 mH 7.5 ohm inductor that goes "between" the L-Pad and the LE5-9 mounts on the L-Pad board.

    All the resistors and inductors are stock JBL, the capacitors are IMB Electro-Cap metallized mylars bypassed with IMB Electro-Cap polystyrene and foil.

    Well, I'm certainly up for being a guinea pig for the prototypes! I got some beauty LE10H's headed here for my dearest pair of 4313B's that would simply love to incorporate those...

    And, I did notice the absense of the monstrous L-pad wire loop - I agree this pathing makes a great deal more sense than that used by JBL. Never have understood that, unless JBL intended make rewiring with Monster cable a real bugger!

    So, you path through the 3.5 mH inductor at/on, but before, the L-pad. That cleans-up the network board layout, too...

    A friend of mine came up with what I think is a pretty ingenious idea for a prototype crossover test fixture:

    Take a piece of masonite, say, a foot square or so. Drill a grid of 3/16" holes, in a 1.5" spacing square pattern. Take #10, 1" long machine screws and put them through the holes, where the threaded ends all stick upward, and run a nut down onto each screw, from the top to secure the screws. THEN... the critical (and cool!) thing: Take alligator clips (the kind that are made with the large sleeve, to go onto the ends of banana plugs) and slide them over the threaded ends of the screws.

    Basically, you're making a "bed of alligator clips", in essence. Works d*** well, IME!!!
