HI am new here, and have a question about cabnet's for a extra set of driver's and crossover's I have. they are from a set of s109's and would like to put them in a small set of box's. What should I keep an eye out for on ebay? thanks,

I've been kind of watching for the same thing, thinking the single LE8T box, L33, I think it was, would be a good model for that combination. They never seem to show up as just cabinets on eBay, tho.

In the meantime, I've got them in a pair of AR4x boxes, closed, which work fine, and are really common and cheap. Watch your local yard sales for suitable cabinets, too.

Best answer, I think, is to build from scratch DIY, or maybe one of the Parts Express kit cabinets, if you're not up to box building. They are very nice when completed....

The Le8t's in the S109 are different. They are called the LE8t-2 and are like the pro 2115. The are light-coned and therefore will not do the same thing in small boxes as the aquaplased LE8t and LE8tH. The promo sheet on the 2115 is in the LH library, and that will give you some idea of what performance to expect from it.

Here's my LE8T in 0.7 cuft. closed AR4x box (red).

Looks like 2115A will do better in 1.75 cuft. tuned to 48 Hz (black), F3=49.2 Hz.

In that case, an L44 cabinet (which IIRC, is slightly bigger than an L33) would be just about optimal. The cabinet tuning indicated (around 48 Hz) means that the standard JBL PR8 passive radiator, should do the job as far as this combination would be concerned.

I don't have any cabinets... but I DO have a good pair of PR8s for sale, if it would help...

I have 3 sets of s109 and have had some reconed, and notice a real big differance in the sound of the new cones, would they be better to use than the original paper ones in a bookshelf speaker, thank's Brian

they used the newer white paper, it seem;s to be twice as heavy as the original. I think it is a laminate paper black on the back and white on the front. they were factory kit's done at jbl dealer. I must say I was not to impressed with the workmanship on the recone's. They were not real neat with the mastic they used, it look's like tar, black and thick looking stuff, and I think they could have been a little more carefull on how much they used. thank's again

yeh that is what they look like, they are the -2 model's, have had this set for about 35 years and on thier 3rd recone. I have 2 other set's of s109's in better shape so thought about doing something different with these. I like the omni directional aspect of the s109, and the small footprint,running 4 they sound good in my small odd shaped living room.
