    Replace 2412H in 8340

Does anyone have any sugestion for an alternative (and better) driver to 2412H in the 8340?

I consider useing 8340 as LCR in my HT but need them to sound a bit better than what they do original, the 2412H can be very harsh.

So this means I need an alternative driver that fits the orginal horn in 8340 which has screw-on horn lenses.

Do i.e. this Eminence PSD2002S driver fit and will it be a descent upgrade?

Try out some of JBLs' small threaded drivers, namely the 2407 or 2408 . ( H or J )

Due to efficiency differences of those 2 suggestions to the older 2412H, I suspect the "J" series ( with an appropriately sized parallel/conjugate resistor wired across the driver ) would be my first choice to try as substitutes .

The 2407 looks very promissing, though kind of expensive.. BMS 4540 is said to be the exact same driver as JBL 2407 and the price is quite a bit lower so maybe that is the best sollution for upgradring 8340?

I'd stay away from a product like that ( way too much midrange ) .

I don't think you have the design chops to make something like that sound good ( even if it was possible ) .

You ( personally ) need to stay close to the original component voicing inherent within the 2412 ( meaning ; some driver component that has lame-ass midrange, but not bad upper presence, all the while having decent HF / after EQ ).

Europe makes lots of these small diaphragmed ( < 1.5" diaphragm ) drivers that fit this bill ( needing to be crossed above 1.9K due to diaphragm size ) . The hard-part is simply finding one that interfaces to your existing horn flair . Personally, I'd jettison that JBL horn also / it's nothing special . RCF used to make a similar bolton called the H9041 .

    > This now all starts to be very custom design work , so I recommend hiring someone like Guido to make it all work together.

Simple and relatively cheap upgrade for that would be a Selenium D220ti. Full size diaphragm and voice coil.

It seems like Selenium D210ti/D220ti is the most common upgrade to JRX (which also have the 2412 driver) and most people say it's a drop in replacement without the need of doing anything with the x-over. This driver is also quite cheap (1/3 of the price of BMS) so maybe this is an OK solution for HT use?

I've now ordred 5 of the Selenium D220ti driver for my HT, it's going to be fun comparing how they sound compared to the 2412, hopefully quite a bit better

Argh I got the 5 Selenium drivers today and for the first time I opened my 8340.... that's when I found out that only the 8340a is useing 2412, and 8340 is useing something that seems more like 2413 So the Selenium drivers I've bought will not fit my horns

The good news is that there are now more drivers to choose from, but the bad news is that I have 5 drivers I've no use for...
