I know this is an old thread, but for those that are interested, Zippo lighters have dating codes on the bottom to tell when they were made. This one appears to be authentic to me. Worth the asking price? Not from me is isn't. I have paid less for cars.

I actually used to collect vintage lighters ( I know, pretty lame) but some do have a pretty decent value amoung collectors, with Zippo being amoung the most collectible. Especially if it is one of the first models with the hinge on the outside of the case.

Anyway, thought I would chime in on something I know a little about. Not affilated in any way with this seller.

    Japanese version

Commemorative Japanese version (50th anniversary?) sold in cardboard and plastic boxes.
These pop up fairly regularly on yahoo auctions in Japan.

Wicked sense of humor + wicked cool speaker = big fun

Hey 57Belaire, is there a model/serial number sticker on the other side of that driver? Could you post a picture of that?

    9 years later....

I found one of these on the bay the other day and couldn't resist. A bit worse for wear, showing quite a bit of brass with a worn hinge pin & latch.

Will be sending it off to Zippo for a mechanical refurb but it's perfect otherwise. It will continue to light many a cigar and pipe for years to come...

JBL used to be a similarly great company. Too bad their upper management has no interest in continuing that legacy.
