Exclamation What's on your JBL To-Do List?

    Hi All,

OK, I thought I'd start a thread on something we all have in common - Too many JBL speakers in need of something and too little time to do it. Maybe we can commisurate, maybe we can encourage, maybe we can help out somehow. But let's build on our common interest about JBL stuff!

I put it in DIY because, well, we're trying to do it. However, even if you're going to use a professional to help get your JBL's back in shape, that's OK too.

No particular rules about the project - maybe just keep the list to your top 10 or top 20. If it's more than that, we can refer you to a counselor and addiction therapist

    OK, I'll start:

    1. 4333A's - refoam 2231/2235H's, replace foam insulation ( ) installed by prior owner w/fiberglass (wouldn't pink look lovely? ), repaint w/JBL blue (anyone got some mixed up already?) and repaint slot horns black.

    2. Olympus C50's - Sell or part out newly acquired set here or elsewhere depending on level of interest. Trying to figure out how to move them without damage. Wondering if I should keep LE85 for a L300 project.

    3. L300's - Have 2 pairs of cabinets to refinish and then restock. Slowly coming around with most drivers, use 2231H vs 2235H for bottom? Have 1 pair of N3333 crossovers, want to try out the Giskard DIY Xover equivalent, looking into a charge coupled version. Also, gotta order the JBL Blue cloth from Zilch....

    4. 2440/2309/2310 driver/horn/lens combo - continuing to mull over the possibiities of using these with the above speakers in lieu of the 2420/2312/2308 or equivalent combo. Hmmmm....or would getting a wood horn (Smith, TAD, Fostex or other) be a better choice?

    5. 2231/2235 drivers - have come up with a number to clean up/prep for refoam/recone and possible use or resale. Looks like a lot of time with MEK and good lighting and ventilation.

    6. 4312A's - have to get a good replacement 2213H woofer and repair a crack in the front veneer.

    7. 4312C (black) - nothing to do except decide whether to keep or move on.

    8. L46's - need to refoam and clean up veneer chips/scratches

    9. 4425's - probable refoam's on the 2214H's (plus a spare) and figure out how to repair a large chip on the front horn mounting panel (just turn it around, paint black and repalce foilcal? Would make them mirror imaged )

    10. Sumo Samson sub with 2235H - how do I convince wife this would make a great coffee table in the living room?

Whew! That's my top ten, sad to say there are another 10 projects I can't discuss at the moment, they're top secret even to me! And 80% of the above were started after I joined LH. You'all made me do it!

Or should I just sell all the above and get some Project Array's?

So, what's on your list that you can share with us?

    Seriously list challenged,

    Bart

PS: Don't get me started on the Altec 620 and A8's that have been waiting over 2 years!

1 & 2) Finish rewiring and install the other two crossovers that I built into the other L200+075 cabinet and my center channel. (One cabinet is complete), other two still have the N1200, N8000.)

    3) Replace my ailing subwoofer amp.

    4) Put some chalk between the W15GTI and the cabinet (rattles against the cabinet at a certain frequency).

    5) Possibly extend the port on the sub to lower the tuning freq (it's at about 35 Hz now).

    6-10) Listen to five disks.

    1. finishing my 4435

    2. hearing music with them long enough to get familiar with them

    3. trying to implement a 2435 Beryllium Driver in the 4435 design

    4. fixing my second XPL160. First is finished, second need only assembling

    5. building CC networks for the XPL160

    6. deciding if the 4313B clones with CC networks or the XPL160 with CC networks should stay

    7. selling 4313 or XPL

    8. starting my MTM project with 2x LE14 or 2214, 2441 with Alu-, Beryllium- or other Diaphragm and Westlake style woodhorn

Somewhere between those steps I need to build CC networks for my second 250ti as the one already have them sounds way smoooother

1] picking up two 4507 cabinets this friday, finally!

2] bring them to my new house because my old one isn't big enough to fit them in

<< move to my new house somewhere in between >>

3] mount the 2235's in them that I had reconed about 4 years ago, but never used since

4] telling Guy to keep harassing JBL about those PT-H1010's he ordered for me over 3 months ago

5] trying out the 2435 / PT-H1010 combi after the waveguides have been delivered

    6] trying out the 4507/2235 with 2420/2307/2308, 2420/2344. 2435/PT-H1010, 2440/2382 horns

7] building small cabinets for the perfect 2123H I have lying around

8] trying out a 3 way with all of the above mentioned components

9] deciding what my "definitive system" will be and then still not sell everything I don't need anymore and buy more JBL stuff that I like

    10] enjoy the hobby...

    frank

ps. and figure out what to do with the 4425 driver, horn and crossovers that I have

    simple...

My "list" reads like the instructions on a shampoo bottle:

    1. Listen.
    2. Learn.
    3. Tweak.
    3. Repeat.

I need to build some enclosures for my 2214 -104H - 035 drivers
I have to make new better crossovers for my l110T and L20T systems.
I have a Polk Audio Mopnitor 10B project that I am debating.

As soon as I get my motorcycle out of the garage it's table saw time.

    1. Keep after Sonofagun to finish my quadrex grills (Been waiting over 7 months)

    2. Refinish perfect set of L-100's. Just refinish and add Grill foam (back to #1)

3, Refinish L300's-- its hard to have them down long enough to refinish as I listen to them all the time.

    4. Build a B460 sub. Plans are far enough along and shoud be posted anytime,

    5. Repair Yamaha preamp and pioneer spec power amp

    6. Install a new battery, and uncover the Corvette, Springtime is ragtop time.

    7. Repair 2 sets of damaged 4311 cabinets

8, Finish my L65 resto project.

9, Take a minute and relax, drink some beer by the pool. buy lotto tickets and imagine how the other half lives.

10 Roll out my paragon plans and dream of the ultimate never ending project.

Work just gets in the way of all the things that really count!!
