    4350 production

Anybody know or have an educated guess how many sets of 4350's were ever made?

    Just My Observations

    4350's - 3 Variations

1 - early first models, white cone 2230A woofers, black baffles, very rarely seen. Maybe 20-30 pairs.

2 - second version, white cone 2230A woofers, blue baffles, up to serial 10203, so 100 pairs at least of the two early models. This is based on the assumption that they used all serial numbers assigned.

3 - third version (sometimes called 4350A's) with "A" suffix serial numbers, 2231A woofers. I have seen serial numbers up thru 12110 A. Again, if they used all serial numbers, and it's safe to assume they did or close to it, then the total to this point would be a little over 1000 pairs of monitors (all 3 variations).

4350B's - It appears to me that the serial numbering started over with this model using a "B" suffix - 10001B, etc. I have seen numbers as high as 10769B which would indicate at least 380 some pairs.

Maybe other members can add their serial number data and show numbers outside these ranges.

Charlie - 12517A is the highest I have seen so far, by a good chunk. That would put approx. production at near 1250 some pairs (or more) of alnico 4350's - all versions. Back in their day the target was pro studio use, worldwide. Not too many knuckle heads put them in their living rooms like we're trying to do today. If you look at the sale of 1200+ pairs from 1974 to 1978(9) till the "B" version came out, that's maybe 250 pairs a year. Not the big splash they made with the L100 but a high ticket item sold to a special market. I'd call the effort a success. The production numbers for the 4350B and 4355 seem to be significantly less. You'll see 10 pairs of 4350's for every pair of "B's" and even fewer 4355's. It's always been my understanding that a hugh chunk of later production models went to J-A-P-A-N and company. Someone needs to take a tally over there. The numbers would be high. Big twin woofer monitors have always been popular with the Japanese buyers. Could be like a penis envy thing????

Steve, sorry for the delay. I'm using with the 5235 and 4343/4350 cards - mostly. Years ago I purchased a 552 new for backup and put that in a few months ago to burn it in. It's getting better, but still prefer the 4350 cards. Nice thing about it is you atleast know they are crossing as intended and can concentrate on just balancing the amps. I'd say a good place to start while you feel out those 4350's. Congrats.

Hey Chuck, Thx for that info. My 4350's will be layed up until Sept. I'm going to have the cabs re-venered as one has some alien snot on it that will not come out. Audiobeer has helped me with this and I'm stuck, but after the re-venering, should be good to go...

    Best regards,
