    Wink Model L55

    I bought a pair of L55's back in 1973.I LOVED the sound and looks.But today,sadly the main woofer latex has desentegrated on both speakers and a replacement tweeter done many years ago sounds poor.
    Well,I am determined to bring these babys back to life.I need to find replacement of tweeter and /or repair of woofers.
    Where do I need to go???

    Try JBL

    Have you called JBL to find out if they have parts for these? They might!

    Orange County Speaker should be able to get you fixed up. You might have to go with the black coned LE14H-1 kit if they can't find any white coned LE14A kits around. The LE20-1 is technically no longer serviceable put a few kits do show up in inventory at JBL so OCS might be able to get hold of them. You might also look for an Authorized JBL Service Center in your own area.

    Old thread - new life!

    I have a pair of L55 cabinets(empty) and wondering since the recommended cabinet size for a LE14H-1 is approx 3.5 cubic ft and the L55's are only 2 cubic ft, what would the resulting response be with LE-14H1's installed?

    I never did find any specs for the -3db down regarding frequency response, and the L55 technical sheet lists the LE14H-1's as replacements (last resort?).

    Any and all comments welcome on this question.

    They're near optimum for BB6P "Hi-Fi" tuning, LE14A, or LE14H-1 "Extended Bass" tuning.

    http://audioheritage.org/vbulletin/s...?t=7671&page=4

    I'm building the 24 dB/octave crossovers to use them with 2407H tweeters on PT waveguides right now (bottom). [ACK!!]

    Orchid = LE14A, box retuned to 32.4 Hz
    Black = LE14H-1, box retuned to 32.4 Hz
    Orange = LE14H-1 in optimum 2.5 cuft., 27 Hz
    Green = LE14H-1 in L55 standard (~39) Hz tuning.

    It's ALL good....

    Thanks Zilch!

    It looks like a drop-in used for sub or 3 way duty.

    Perfect for TWO-way, yup.

    Too small for sub, probably.

    [Think Citation 7.4 for that....]

    Bottom end response with L55 cabs?

    Zilch,

    Think it will go down to 40hz/-3db?

    Depends on your environment as to what it is really doing at 40 Hz.

    BB6P says the 3 dB downpoint is going to be at ~ 45 Hz, the 6 dB downpoint is going to be at ~ 35 Hz, and usable response is going to extend to ~ 28 Hz if you tune the box in the 28 Hz to 30 Hz range.

    Thanks, Giskard.

    I'm going to try adding more fill to them to push up the virtual volume a bit, as well.

    On the S99's, that also conferred transparency to the sound of the bass, apparently breaking up a standing wave which had given them a "boxy" sound without it.

    An additional 3" insulation at the rear was enough to improve it.
