Telling him to just "measure the inductuctance and use this formula" is not very helpful... few speaker builders have the equipment necessary to do that. If they did, we'd already have a chart here...

Storm, uh, Dude... it's your music, I assure you. :barf:
You need some Steely Dan (let me recommend Aja), Tower of Power (Monster on a Leash), Brian Setzer Orchestra (The Dirty Boogie and...
What he is talking about, ship your drivers to Great Plains and let them install the diaphragms.
The Alnico magnets in the drivers lose magnatic force after so many years. Bill at GPA will...
I didn't read Duane's post as a putdown of Soundboy's gear, but rather as a suggestion on something that could be easily improved.
Possibly turning one of the coils might unmask even more...
Looking at the photo, your crossover is a "2nd Order" aka 12 db/octave crossover. Here is a schematic:

Received Sean's crossovers this afternoon. Note the little scratch on the lower knob on the right crossover at about the 9 o'clock position.

and check out the 4pi Theatre. The kits are all components (woofer, horn driver, horn lens, crossover) but wood. Wayne Parham at Pi will gladly send you plans for any of his...
As per your request,
This is what I would put in there if they were mine (Parts Express numbers)
2 ea 027-348 22uF-100V NON-POLARIZED CAPACITOR .. $0.75 $1.50
2 ea 027-426 DAYTON...
The parts list I gave earlier is as "designer" as I get. The part numbers given are from Parts Express. www.partsexpress.com
Enter the part numbers in the search box.
The reason this came to mind, the same was done on the A7 when flipping the cabinet upside down and moving the horn inside. One of the two boards on front were removed, the horn replace the area of...
No ports? Look a the photo of the one with the horn in place... On each end of the horn aren't those gaps (that's grill cloth showing!) working as ports?
Very interesting! Thank you!
I can find most of the T/S parameters for Altecs, but no one seems to have Le... which is quite handy to know if you are designing a crossover.
Anyone know where to find this info? In...
Thom, I use a large neo magnet, appx 1.5" dia x 1.5" long, mounted in a special fixture with handle, for removing dents in brass musical instruments. Large diameter ball bearings (1" - 3" dia) are...
No, don't. They put resistors in series with some of the speakers and that serously screws up the crossover function.
Just don't run both the 4 ohm and 8 ohm at the same time at high power...
Looking at the woofer portion, L1 is a low pass 1st order (6db/octave) filter.
Looking at the midrange, C1/C1A is a high pass 1st order (6db/octave) filter.
Those components determine the...
Someone above referred to an L-pad as a "pot", and if so, that may be a source of confusion.
A pot has one resistive element, with the center post (2) tied to a wiper.
An L-pad has TWO...
The crossovers that I built for GaryL were built from the Model 19 schematic on some stripped Model 15 crossover chassis. So, I had no parts to start with. I didn't replace the original inductors......
A good bead of carpenter's wood glue is just fine. Do one side, let it sit until dry enough it won't run, rotate the speaker, do another side.
With the Model 19 (and other Altecs) the crossover comes out easily.
Fortunately the coils and resistors are seldom damaged. You usually don't have to worry about replacing them.
The L-pads...
Excellent work! Yes, please post photos when they are finished.
Just pony up $11,800.00 USD (ahhh, free shipping!) and you can have a pair of new A7's.

Yes, that was the schematic I used for Gary L's xover.
I'm Paul C. that built GaryL's Model 19 crossovers.
Gary sent some Model 15 stripped chassis that are identical but for marking on the faceplate, as well as some new 8 ohm L-pads and knobs.
