There are some good candidates for both balanced and unbalanced operation now!
For unbalanced operation the current champ is the topping L30:...
I wonder if that horn will be available as a part...
Very exciting indeed!
What about the distortion of the amp itself, for power tests?
An autoformer could possibly solve the issue, or simply an lpad.
Another solution would be to use a very quiet...
What make you think the voice coils are damaged?
I don't see anything obvious from the picture above.
At this point you should probably send the drivers to some competent shop and have them clean...
The 476Mg use magnesium diaphragms that are different from the titanium ones listed above.
Unless you manage to get your hands on magnesium diaphragms you will not get the same response as the...
Thanks for posting this!
With such an high crossover frequency for a 12" woofer that was to be expected.
You really need to measure the output of your DSP and adjust from there, as it is both easier and (much) more accurate than measuring the drivers + room.
By the way, do you have an accurate...
Hi Rob
That spinorama might come from an early prototype, but might not have passed the listening test... :dont-know:
The UHF response drops off axis, but that is already pretty good for a 1.5"...
The listening axis is indeed right between the horn and woofer, but you cannot use that for nearfield measurements as you would get a much higher angle that way that what you would get at...
Rob, I can relate to your 3" vs 4" listening impression here: the is a notable difference in dynamic that is hard to understand when looking at measurements.
I also heard the same kind of difference...
Sorry for the confusion!!
I will continue in your large format comp thread: http://www.audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?42373-Large-Format-Compression-Driver-Listening-Impressions
Amazing work Rob!
Have you had a chance to compare the 2453 with the 2450SL sonically?
Hi Flodstroem,
Mine was pretty old, probably first generation with the ASRC bug and extension card port.
I remember the processor usage went up and down for no good reason.
Maybe they improved...
Looks like a legit D2430K driver to me.
The "M2" version (whatever that implies) exists with both the grey and yellow foilcals.
What you need to look for here is the "M2 D2430K" paper sticker on...
300Hz is a difficult frequency to deal with when measuring in a room, but with a combination of close mic measurement and spatial averaging around the listening position (eg MMM technique) it can be...
Hello Herman,
The TD4003 has two important traits that need to be considered when choosing a horn:
Its output diameter is 39mm, ie a bit larger than the 38mm of the JBL (and other brands) 1.5"...
Hey Barry, I'll take the opportunity to ask you something, as I trust your option/taste on those things.
I know you love both the 2020H and 2123H, but what about the 2012H then?
It was a pleasure, good luck with your project!
Apparently they also stopped taking photos

They still call it a DD67000: http://www.avcat.jp/main/avnews/files/2019/06/DSC_7526.jpg :dont-know:
What's more interesting here IMO is the new expansion studio monitor series

Or maybe Guido now works at JBL :D
Hello laszlo
I have 16 of these mounting clamps.
The distance from the base (baffle) to the flat part of the clamp (basket front) is 17mm.

Hi Rob,
That is pretty strange indeed, one would expect an exact same internal design between the two. Might be something related to an evolution of the build process that could also appear...
