I will have to track down some pics of the piano black. I have been nothing but thrilled with my S3900s. I am spinning a Tape Project tape on my Studer A807 as I type this. These speakers...
Agreed. My class A, 30 watt integrated has more than enough headroom for the S3900s. That is one aspect of these speakers I really enjoy, the ability to handle dynamic music. Big orchestral pieces...
I don't have S4700s or 4429s at my disposal to compare to, so I will never know. :)
I am really enjoying them. They are quite a bit different to my previous speakers. The amount of clarity and detail is amazing. I thought at first they might sound a bit too detailed, but after...
I like Mapleshade's stuff but not their prices. I got my block from a carpenter for a fraction of the cost of a comparable Mapleshade.
Thanks, the other speakers are Vienna Acoustics Beethoven Baby Grand SEs. Also an excellent speaker, but very different from the JBLs.
Nope, Scoutmaster 2 turntable is sitting on top of a 3" thick maple block.
They're here...

Listening impressions to follow. :D
Great write up Don. They look fantastic in your room and I am sure they sound even better. I hope to hear a pair someday.
I have a pair of 305s and the 310 sub coming next week to hook up...
They would have had I bought new, but these came from a private seller.
While I do prefer the aesthetics of the S3900 over the 1400, I could have easily gone with the 1400 if it fit. I had Array 800s for a couple of years and the vertical horn didn't bother me at all.
I will be receiving a pair of gently used S3900 speakers next week. I went back and forth trying to decide between Array 1400s or the S3900s, but for my small room I felt the S3900 would be the best...
Hi all,
First a bit of background. I am a fairly recent member of the L series club. I currently own L1s, 3s, and 5s. My main and only setup at the moment is a combination 2-channel/HT...
Right now I am just using RCA-1/4" cables. It seems to work but I do notice a bit of low level hum. I have been wondering if I need a DI box of some type. I was going to try an ART CleanBox Pro,...
Hi,
I just purchased a JBL Synthesis S2S subwoofer to augment my JBL L5 main speakers. I am looking for a crossover that will help me integrate the sub into my system. I am using an Audio...
Oh well...It looked like just the thing I was trying to DIY. It has the added benefit of matching the finish on the L5s (not important but nice anyway). I'll give it a shot and see how it goes.
Hi,
Does anyone have any experience with the S2S subwoofer? I was looking for a passive sub (for music) to go with my spare Yamaha PC2002M amp and I found a new S2S at a good price so I jumped on...
Thanks for the great ideas gents. The direction I am leaning is a pair of either 12" or 15" boxes. What drivers should I be looking for besides the 2235H and the LE120H-1? Thanks again.
That's a good question...It is mostly because it is an area I have limited experience in and would like to learn more. Also I have the PC2002M amp available to me so I thought a sub would be a fun...
Hi all,
I am looking to build a subwoofer or a pair of subwoofers to complement my 2-channel music system. My system is comprised of an Audio Research LS3 preamp and a Yamaha PC2002M amp. My...
