I've had my L65's since buying them new in 1975, while working at JBL. I can tell you from first hand 35 year experience that they will ALWAYS sound better when de-coupled from the floor. The bottom...
Back in my QA days, we used to test the GRS/Tideland drivers at only 17,500 Hz, as that was the specific frequency they were used at, in traffic sensing/signalling applications. Don't think I'd use...
Value is all relative.
Tom !!
Hey, Swimmer!! Long time, no talk to...I remember when you built those puppies!
Also remember the rides with Gordy and Carol! Had dinner with GT a few weeks back, and he says Howard...
You might try your resistance reading on the actual voice coil wires, underneath the solder bead on the front of the cone. this is a typical area of connection failure. If that is the case, you may...
The Solen's willl be a remarkable substitute for the original caps. Iron core inductors are OK in woofer circuits, but the air-cores will be much more stable at higher frequencies. I don't know how...
R11 and R19 work pretty well.
Hey, Doc Mark!!
Well, in actual fact, I am smelling it right now. Had to do a small repair to a loose corner on one of my 4430 grilles.....Works great!

3M 77 spray adhesive also works well
I've been very happy with my QSC RMX-850's.....Class AB, under $300.
Blues harp, and Bass........Blooz Bass!
IMHO, find another repairman. Never stand on a dollar trying to pick up a dime. You have a high-end speaker there, and as was just pointed out, once the paper burns, the glue deforms, the VC can...
Aliphatic resin (Carpenter's glue) is just fine. JBL used it for years on their cardboard tubes. Good 'ol Elmer's ! Don't know what they use on plastic tubes, but silicone should also be just fine....
In userCP, you should be able to select "Linear; oldest first"
I've re-capped my L65's, 4311B's, 4430's, and Alpha I's, all with Solen, and am absolutely sold on the results....Good bang-for-the-buck.

Sorry....Couldn't pick just one!
Yeah, no kiddin' !!
I'm still looking for 250ti's, 4350's and Everest II's with my name on them!
They're all bound to be the best I ever heard......
Precisely why I have my Snap-On Dial-Back torque wrench in the shop!
Stan...
There's not a super-abundance of differences among the
LE-5 series of drivers as regards their sound. I'm talking hearing versus measuring, of course. Mostly some smoothing out of...
Gotta throw in my 2 cents worth on the bypass caps. If the replacement caps are low cost, poor quality, like the Chicago condensers he's changing, then the .01uf bypass caps would be a great...
The absolute best speaker you can own, is the one that sounds absolutely the best to you.
Matter of fact, I have several sets, all sound different, and they all sound absolutely the best to me !!
Also, if you don't want to parallel caps to get the actual 6.0 ufd value, I personally would go with a 6.2 ufd rather than 4.7. You don't want to wander too far away from the designed crossover...
The 100v cap should be fine.....I generally use 250 volt Solens, but as long as the voltage rating is above anything likely to occur in the network, you'll be fine.
Some like to use either 400 or...
Correct about the Fender JBL's.......When we tested them in the QA booth, we always placed physical pressure on the frames during the 20 Hz test signal, to make sure the VC's didn't rub, since Fender...
