Frame or cone?
I would think a dye would be preferred for darkening up a paper cone (although it might not cover up problem areas).
Google-ing "speaker cone dye" turned up quite a few options....

Crossovers: look like one LX5 might have been worked on or was just assembled on a different line/different time... just an observation, not a concern (worth checking values/connections, and cleaning...
I like the idea of a larger port, but if you were -really- wanting to keep the stock look (and port aperture), you could simply cut a larger opening in the inside panel... as a thought.
How much...
lol... same here... except they weren't "bent"
Fun speakers in nice condition.
Suggest not touching the foam around the tweeters... or if you purchase the speakers, consider replacing the foam with available "rings". They almost certainly have...
Maybe check out a car audio forum?
A fun read. Thanks Todd. Good job saving those from the crusher!! and that you found out more about their place in 604 history (as Rob said :)).
Did seem like there had to be more to these
My guess is that A1 includes the switch, other assemblies are simply off board, with the diagram showing those connections. I’m not aware of any biamp-only 4430’s (but weird stuff happens). Agree re...
So it's not that the notion didn't have merit:

Not obvious that this idea would work at all as a 2203, unless much more were changed than the surround. Perhaps not even then.
The simple answer is no.

No worries. I'm here to learn as much as anyone else.
Looks like the OP is getting some good info.
Nevermind. Enjoy.

LOL. I stand by my initial impression and guesses about this driver... & I'd take that 2.5KHz upper 3dB spec with a grain of...
SUB1500 -> Ultima Sub-15 (iirc)
I ran them in ported cabs under a pair of L96 for awhile, to very nice effect.
SUB1500 is really intended for subwoofer duty only.
MTM notion wasn't magic, just...
Opinions and bench racing is easy from this end... sounds like a fun project.
My initial thought would be to go MTM with the 2251Js and Heil, if you have the space and won't be too close...
In the simplified block diagram for the receiver, it certainly appears that there's both a direct PCM mode (bypassing) DSP and necessarily using the PCM1792 DAC, and also a "Pure Direct" analog path...
Several things going on. Below 20Hz (below port resonance), you can expect weird speaker noises and complaints from the driver, as the motion will be fairly uncontrolled. A sealed system might be...
the 2254J (vs 2245) ... not a choice I'd make for a sub... appears optimized for horn loading (the HLA usage)

Right. MA15 kit is explicitly not for the 145 series per JBL documentation.
Screws and T-nuts is all I’ve ever seen used with these thicker framed drivers.
Hi Richard.
interesting, yes. Particularly for newer members, and visitors.
But... burying it in a 31-page blog in a sub-forum intended for Professional Amp discussion is probably not...
Ha. Yeah, that's where I started. Seemed to sort of break down (in my thinking anyway) when the bandwidth got smaller when I ran some numbers.
But as a first order guesstimate, something around that...
I get the idea, even if it's a very rough rule of thumb ... 400,000 to 600,000?... perhaps higher as the span gets smaller?
Shooting for a system that isn't overly bassy or trebly... trimming both...
They do look like JBL diaphragms though.
If you have some dead 2405s, nothing to lose.
I'd try to measure responses once installed, and work the worst of any creases out (carefully)... perhaps...
I appreciate your moxie.

Thinking it's just talk about the magnet from a 12" 2202 ... Putting that on a curious 15" frame and then expecting sound would come out of it.
Seems like a lot of effort unless the recone parts are...
