Having owned the 80t3 and 200t3 i think that whatever differerences there are in components, the practical difference in hearing them is that the bigger driver means more bass and a bigger sound....

Now you have the info and low-cost options to jump right in.

$400 for those 4412 mentioned is an excellent deal and good intro to JBL. L80t3s & L100t3s at around the same price or lower are also...

Your questions are detailed, but unless you're willing to go the extra mile and actually demo several pairs, I'd suggest that with quite reasonable prices for the most part, and sound that is more...

My experience, Ureis are highly regarded by some but have a sound that i don't like in relation to JBLs. Lots of mid-range, with a clangorous quality i don't find pleasant. Just my opinion.

Well el cheapo, i'd say they're more of an enhancer, a sweetner to seal the deal, rather than much value in and of themselves..

I use 4425s..Try Outlaw or get a used Nakamichi AV-1S, AV-10 or CA-7a/PA-7 preamp/amp; i've bought and returned HKs, NADs, Marantz, Onkyos, etc. Not impressive.

The version i've heard is Junky But Loud; in either case the current perception in the recording realm is that JBL is solid but not elite, with no comprehension of their lineage amongst most buyers....

Takes a lot of work and persistence to find and then directly compare monitors of quality and then to find value on top of that, but it can be done with patience, taking a long-term perspective....

The audiophile label doesn't work for me, because while i love and own vintage JBLs, i'm not sure they're the last word in finesse or some of the other attributes of a refined speaker.

IMO, the 12" drivers on either are as far as i want to go. My friend, a long-time Tannoy dealer, agrees that DMT 15s and 4430s look in his words,...

I bought both of them new, JBL 4425s and Tannoy DMT12s and have them side by side. Most of the assessments are either inaccurate or unclear, IMO. I've kept both because it's a toss up: comparable...

They do have a dry sound, that's an accurate assessment that is in many ways a good characteristic-uncolored, clear and punchy sound. The sibilance is there as well, though it can be adjusted....
