Hi, haven't been here in a bit. A friend had a question about the 128H and if recone kits (or just cone body itself) are still available from JBL? I have seen aftermarket ones available, ranging from...
Hi Stephane, those are some really nice links you posted up - thanks a bunch! So many of those old time cones and baskets are really marvelous, like these old time British drivers;
Here's a few shots of some interesting RCA hi-fi product from the past. RCA made some quality stuff back then.
Here's another peice of Vintage Canadian audio - Clairtone style!
Ancient thread I know, but so is the amp! I thought Northern Electric was the Canadian equivalent, or subsidiary, to Western Electric. Perhaps a knowledgable few can chime in.
If you can locate one of these old SONY Pulse Modulation power supply amps you'll have more than your fair share of incredibly distortion free amplification - and they won't crush your shelf either!
Hi Krunchy, in your quest for a CD player, you may not wish to turn your nose up at an old Kyocera. They made some real fine players, especially in their upper echelon line-up.
From the files of the rare and unusual. The Marantz deck must have the hands down for most amount of faceplate buttons. Seems the walnut case version goes for a buck too. The Scott nixie tube tuner...
Hi Wolf, it is indeed the hardboard cover to the back of the can. I took it off for the photo but left it present for show. The driver's pole peice is milled out to receive a fastener to secure it in...
They probably are from the early 60's rather than the late 50's even though ceramics were developed in the early 40's. The midrange might be useful as a musical instrument speaker in a practice amp....

Hi Robin, glad to hear you are also a fan of audio ephemera. Are you asking if there is a book available on DIY Hi-Fi loudspeakers?
Thanks for sharing yours Wolf...
For the groups' perusal...
I took the time to sort through some old electronics hobbyist magazines last weekend and came across a few interesting ads. Many of the magazines were from early to late...
Hi there, yes a digital EQ would be preferred if I was going to go that route. It's nice to monkey with the bands before they get into the analogue domain. A friend and I were discussing a Behringer...
Does anyone know the functional / feature differences between a HK EQ-7 (like the one pictured) and an EQ-8? I have the EQ-7, and it seems like a nice peice of kit.
Hey, its the Morbid 4000's by Wiccan Acoustics!
I think these may even sound bombastic...
Yes, some do come up with interesting homes for their drivers...
Hi there, it couldn't hurt to hit the cone edge with a thin layer of compound. It's highly unlikely they put a measured amount on there (too time consuming per driver) and I doubt even matched pairs...
I wouldn't be too concerned about lack of compound on the cloth, just as long as it creates an airseal. I assume your Altecs are ported cabs, which is less of a worry than sealed in this situation...
Thats' damping compound for ya!
