I would have to take measurements for the foam on the horn for sure. More importantly, though, I want to know the low end limit to which that horn will load a compression driver.
Was wondering if there are opinions as to whether there are modern compression drivers that outperform something like the LE85
in terms of sound. I know it is subjective, but I read that there are...
Does anyone know the low end limit of the horn in the model 809? I know they cross crossover at 1800hz, but I'm not using the Jbl driver and am wondering if I can go a little lower, say 1200 or...
Does anyone know to what frequency the horn of a Urei 809 load it's driver. JBL/Urei crossed over at 1800Hz, but I'd like to try 1200Hz or 1500Hz.I am not using the stock H.F. driver.I've also read...
I know that we get a rise in efficiency when we corner load(can you say KlipchHorn?). However with the general inability to predict room loading characteristcs, until you actually put the enclosure...
It seems to me when we talk about measureable results for loudspeakers we forget something. They dont necessarily translate into what it actually sounds like. It has even been said in many other...
Over in one of the other forum rooms they were talking about measureable distortion in compression drivers versus ribbons, domes, etc. Even though compression drivers have higher measureable...
[quote=Harvey Gerst;. Of course, we lied back then, calling our 8 Ohm speakers "16 Ohms"
Does this in fact mean that most of the older alnico pro drivers marked at 16ohms actually had a nominal imp....
I'm using a bolt to thread adapter to attatch the LE85 to the 803. I believe that the LE85 is sonically superior to the 2416H, but thats a matter of taste. I also want to use seperate amps to power...
Ok to be very specific I'm using a Urei 803, but with an LE85 driver. I think a 1200hz crossover point would be good. If the time offset is too small to be an issue then I guess this is all moot. ...
Thanks for the info. I cant physically move the components because it is a coaxial unit. I want to use active crossovers and the ones I'v seen with any kind of delay built in are like the DBX and...
Does anyone know how to calculate the amount of delay needed to time-align components? I would imagine we're converting inches to milliseconds!
I think Its an oft overlooked area that reaps...
My "project" speaker is actually a relatively slim profile with a Urei 803 coaxial driver(in seperate sub enclosure)used from 90hz up(an LE85 is mounted on the 803).
I have 2231A's mounted side...
OOOppps they are 803's....maybe I should go see an optimist ...anyway 2214? I'll check thanks
These units say 801 on them. They are 12" w/a half-roll foam surround.....I dont believe the E145 is the same.
You mean great plains, right? Ill fix the horn and then send them the speaker for reconing. I know they'll do a great job
Yeah heavy custom...I thought that woman only hated me(lol)
Does anyone...
I havent seen a separate sheet for the 801 with thiele-small parameters for the woofer section. any help? Thanks R
thanks scotty...I think my best bet is to repair the one I have with some bondo or fiberglass .
By the way... I notice that you're in Brooklyn. There a really good speaker reconing place there, but...
Hi..Im in need of a replacement for an Altec 605a's horn unit. One of the sections of the horn is broken off and since I have to recone it anway I thought..what the heck.
If nobody has one(maybe...
Does anyone one know if replacements and/or upgrades are available for the multicell on an Altec 605A? One of the cells on mine has a substancial piece missing. As i need to re-woofer it any...
Thanks for the reply, Dave. As a cynic, though I learned many years ago that sometimes when things measure better they don't neccessarily sound better. I know the ferrites measure with lower harmonic...
I dont have alot of experience with the 2245's in other than pro applications i.e. sound reinforcement and club systems. I do have alot of experience with the 2231. I find it to be one of the finest...
Just to play devils advocate, I believe, for home use, and for the range you specify..if you can find a 2231 (L136). you'll do better. If you can find an earlier alnico magnet model all the better....
Wow sounds extreme...but makes sense...does anyone know were this is explained? Is there a suitable foam or rubber replacement?
Thanks! Rich
