Whoa, hold on there........those could very well be JBL built. Just because something comes from a paging company, don't assume it's not worth anything.
I've never seen an Altec sticker like that.
Very carefully compare to a known original? I don't know them well enough to know.
I don't know of one specific to the 816. There are about three styles that I've seen on cabinets forsale or in forums, but the one I linked to is the one most people want.

They show up on Ebay all the time. Some are copies, some are original.
Our grandparents still had Physics....... it wasn't all trial and error.
That's a nice looking horn........ makes me want to build something.
Sounds like you have A5's not A7's. The cabinet is the same.
I'm not sure on the details, but the AlNiCo magnets need to be enclosed that way or they will loose their magnetism. If you disassemble a motor with an AlNiCo magnet, it will need to be recharged. ...
If by vintage you're talking about drivers that use AlNiCo magnets, that's your answer right there....... They're esentially shielded, as the actual magnet is totally enclosed in steel in many cases....
Call Great Plains Audio in OK if you want to get them reconed, or sell them on Ebay as they are...... making note that the coils are blown.
I'm not familiar with that cabinet, but I would assume they have a rear panel that is removable. Why not simply build a new panel to mount the amps in?
MDF is cheap, has a nice smooth surface, and a very even density, that is all it has going for it. I'd sooner use a higher grade plywood. The plywood will be more rigid, requiring less bracing. ...
Very interesting mounting system. What is the material that you used?
Could you explain this further? How is that different than a stain? Traditional stain(*) is pigment, oil, and thinner....... are you mixing colorant with straight linseed oil or something similar?...
Thanks..... I still am a bit unclear on it, but I'd probably have to see it done to fully understand. For instance if the toner is opaqe how would you use a stain on top of it...... or maybe stain...
While I'd prefer to see more of the grain, that does look really nice! Could you tell me/us more about toner? I don't normally don't associate that word being used with wood finishing..... how is...
I see they are made in the UK...... does that mean they they were actually made by Vitavox, or did WE actually have a factory over there?
How will you mount them? They don't have holes, like the...
I don't know anything specifically about Carmels, but they look like a good project. After seeing some of your other work on AK, I feel confident that you'll be able to do something about the...
I know a guy that refers to his brothers, and sometimes himself, by number. When I met one of his younger brothers, I asked him what number he was...... he stared at me blankly until he realized...
You're missing my point....... I said centimeters, not SI, MKSA (or whatever it is), cgs, or whatever other metric based system you can think of. Maybe people use centimeters in casual conversation,...
Yes, measurements quoted in mm make me want to look for a bag, box or bucket to carry them all in :D
I tend to think of centimeters (that no one uses) as counting 1/2 inches :applaud:
I don't know if you or I could hear the difference, but I think the re-coning supply service is guessing at best. Altec vented the theatre woofers in the front, and the Mi woofers in the rear......I...
Be careful...... don't blow those horns. There's only one place that I've ever heard of that can fix them.
