I mean, besides the obvious someone painted the cone. Not sure how or why you 'dust' with paint... nor why someone would do that to a woofer cone??! Maybe to touch up imperfections like cracks and...
Thanks very much Don C. I wish I had some 4312s!!!! Those DO look cool and bet they sound good!
Sadly, I don't have any 4312s :)
I think most likely it was an old ebay search for a car...
I have this model woofer "JBL Bass8" saved in my eBay search history .. but can't remember which model(s) I was seeking this replacement woofer for...?!
Can y'all advise which model(s) used this...
Maybe good news, and currently having an alternate theory about this . . .
Well, now that the 'Armor-All' has settled into the surround, the woofer is no longer seized! Hahahaha, I WISH!! :D

I have 6 L20T's, and 5 extra 115H-1 woofers; they are all from different suppliers.
About 1/2 of the woofers have this sticky/glossy surround issue and 1/2 are fine. The 'gross' factor can't be...
Here are pics of all my 115H-1 that succumbed to the same "sticky" phenomenon you encountered. I can't see any evidence that something was 'applied' to the surround, i.e. looks like just...
Hi Cozmo, et al. -->
Just snooping about the dog den on this one a bit...
Also curious on your L20T(3) "sticky icky" surround issue; I've also had a few similar-condition surrounds on just...
I tried a few other subwoofers for comparison sound tests.

There, I fixed it :) Changed the nameplate to JBL.

Hi everyone!
Well it's been about a decade since my original post. Dad just turned 94, mom is 87, and they're moving to a retirement home next month.
Since my first post on this Paragon, I did...
Last year a guy on craigslist had listed "JBL Speakers" as 'too big to keep'. He didn't even know the model number. They were in MINT Condition. He was 'asking' $175. I was the first caller, but it...
Ha, dragging it outside would be nice. I use a handtruck to cart it around the house, must be at least 250 pounds. It does have ill effects based on its location and my house isn't the greatest...
Found this subwoofer locally on craigslist. It's a prototype model, 6.5' tall tri-fold subwoofer, 15" woofer. I removed the built-in amp from the box, upgraded it to a 1,000 watt plate amplifier...
Seems all the decibel meters I can find for sale only go to 130 dB (though if they're digital, the display only goes to 129).
Anyone know where to get relatively cheap meters that go higher?

I suppose it could be leather. Very very worn leather. It is super soft to the touch and very pliable; at this stage, it feels more like velour.
Ding! Ding! That was quick! :)
Here is the backside with the manufacturer name or location <?>.
(do I dare hook it up? ... 30hz test tone??, lol)

Just received one of dad's first speaker drivers.
Anyone guess/know:

How it works:
My Maserati does 185,
I lost my license now I don't drive.
I have a limo ride in the back,
I lock the doors in case I'm attacked.
I too had serious reservations about commercial grade or even youtube playing anything outside 20hz-20khz as those are the limits we've always read about.
But upon pondering 'why not', there are...
Yep that's sound advice mech986 and thanks everyone for their input.
The fact is, I'd have never known about it, save for the 16hz-12hz test; and I don't play any tunes in that range on this set....
Sorry, yes I pressed gently (while driver was playing) both directly on the center of the cone and on all sides (and even tried holding down the spider), and the clicking doesn't go away.
I feel...
I wish I could stop it! :)
The vc seems extremely well centered (which is why I don't work on speakers - I lack the ability to center circles)
I also figured it's gotta be the spider hitting against the basket, but it's really well glued around the entire perimeter from inner edge to outer edge.
It seems odd to me that I'm able to...
Sure but they are nowhere near excursion limits; I just do low level tests. Most speakers are rolled off above 20hz or so, but it doesn't mean they won't move it. It's like running your car engine...
I was pretty excited to find a youtube video that plays descending frequencies (all the way down to 1 hz!) I was more amazed that my L100T woofers visually moved all the way down to 1hertz!
But...
