The only thing "awesome" about those drivers is the fact that anybody would actually pay good money for them. The 555 is horrible sounding, and attributing the the phase differences
to transformers...

JBL occupies a special place in my (& all the others around here) heart & mind.

The "rare" blue color is really much darker blue and it seems to me was used on the LE
series in the 60's for a while. Off the top of my head it seems like it was S7 hardware
that was painted that...

The person that built it spent a great deal of time & energy on it & enjoyed it for years.
It's nice to find great stuff like that.

The proportions are wrong for any of the JBLs. Probably homemade is my guess. Nice speaker tho!

Is it blue or just the way it's lit?

Woofer is a D130. A pretty common item. With a 130A those go for pretty good money on EBAY.

JBL never supplied the badges for homemade cabinets, so that's the first clue. The Speaker
is a D130. Possibly the original owner started with a D130 & added the 175 later on. JBL advertised this...

Dr Strangelove?

In it's day the DC300 reigned supreme! In those days Crown was building
elaborate shiney metallic looking reel to reel tape recorders too. I had the catalogs but never actually saw one anywhere.

The dentist. I think it's in the last issue of "Audiocraft". It was pictures from the first house I think, before he moved. I'm almost certain it must be the same system.

That system is very similar to a built in one described in "Audiocraft" magazine in the late 50's, including the strange grouping of D130's and the Marantz 2's. The horn/lenses are the only thing...

The difference is that if you wanted 375's & got a 2440's it will be in the back of your mind that you don't have 375's all the time you are listening to them.

I've see this combination before a long time ago on ebay. The 150-4c was designed as a front horn loaded speaker, that cabinet being rear loading.

It's been a while, but McIntosh was always helpful when I called them with a question. Although I never asked them about serial numbers, I'll bet that the service department would be able to help you...

Reconing is expensive. If they aren't too bad, I'd sell them on ebay, take the money & buy another pair of mint ones on ebay. You'll get close on the total...

Heath sold LE14's those have foam. They are a green color.

They used it that way on the Paragon for years, so I guess it works if you bounce it off a curved wall.

I have had one of those for 25+ years & have never tried it. So it sounds good?
