a thunderous LP. I saw Alice Cooper during the Billion Dollar Babies tour, loved the music but not so much all the theatrics. The early Alice Cooper music stood just fine without the sideshow.

It's so fantastic to get this one on vinyl. The times they are a changing.....Remember 1971 Santana 3 with Gregg Rolie, Neal Schon and Michael Shrieve. French pressing on 2 LPs.
Fancy cover picture art. Kaukonen/Casady/Steeler. Who else?

produced by his lost weekend drinking buddy, John Lennon. Great covers of Many Rivers To Cross & Subterranean Homesick Blues. Of course this party includes Keith Moon & Ringo.
Let the sunshine in......This one brings light and colours into our cold, grey and rainy april weekend here in St. Gallen, Switzerland:
Sir Douglas Texas Tornado with "uncle" Mickey Moody, guitar and engineering. But it's a dynamically mediocre US pressing. Anybody owns a sufficient pressing?
Let more sunshine in.......Superb pressing from Holland. Flaco Jimenez accordion.
Goodtime music by Sir Douglas organist August Meyers. Recorded in New York with "Asleep at the wheel" and Jerry Jeff Walker's Lost Gonzo Band. Good dynamics.
Rich, full dynamics. Superb english pressing. Carlos Santana used to play a Gibson Les Paul in those years. So listen to the twin guitars of track A2 "No one to depend on" and listen loud. Test your equipment!
Larry Coryell - Spaces

first release with Coryell on the cover. killer fusion with not-bad session players: John McLaughlin, Chick Corea, Miroslav Vitous, Billy Cobham.
The John Coltrane Quartet - Africa/Brass
(1961, Impulse!) Stereo A-6; RVG STEREO in the deadwax
http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...04/jc002-2.jpg
recycled picture. w/ Eric Dolphy, McCoy Tyner.
wow, this is a nice late night listen. takes me back to first exposure to Coltrane and hard bop with a late night FM program in the early 70s
I have a big problem with this one: my wife.
Once in every year i put this LP on my turntable. Same procedure as every year: my wife asks me: what's this we are listening to? Is that music? And she shakes her pretty head.
She doesn't like this famous one. But she is right...... I don't like it too.
This is definitively not our piece of cake. So we will try again next year.....
Help! For me (and my wife) it's very difficult to understand this kind of jazz music. It's not witty, isn't it? But it's a little more better than John Coltrane's Africa/Brass. Tell me: why do you like this one? Which title shall i try to listen to? And my wife?
So i will catch my guitar and will play some simple tunes.....
UK heavies! Anybody here who owns the original issue of this LP in mint condition? Oh, how lucky you are! And rich. The Beat Goes On......

It's 1967, Sgt. Pepper is everywhere so like everyone else Chad & Jeremy do a concept LP. It has interesting moments. Folkies meet psych - reminds me of a scene from A Mighty Wind.

Cover art work by Roger Dean. Remember many famous LP covers by Uriah Heep, Yes, Greenslade, Asia, Badger, Osibisa, Budgie, Gentle Giant, Steve Howe etc.
All the singles from1974 until 1989. The producers were: Vic Maile, Richard Gottehrer, Mike Vernon, Nick Lowe, Dave Edmunds et al.
Sadly the dynamics on these 2 LPs are rather mediocre. But hey, it's Pub Rock.
Look at the picture of the DJ on fold cover: please don't treat your vinyl that way.....
After all this time still beautiful. 45 years old US vinyl. After all this time still in nm condition. But it's a cut-out foldcover. So once again: shame on them......Anybody who listened to quadrophonie in the seventies?
Miles Davis - Seven Steps To Heaven

with Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter. listening with the Mono switch engaged. Nice. First picture is recycled from 2011.
The front cover art picture is by Pablo Picasso: 1921 "The Three musicians". The name of the group is not visible. So, hurrying LP- hunters don't check it.........So it was my benefit when i discovered this gem. It looks like a classic music LP. But it is not what it seems to be. Super rare.
The guitar players: Elvis had Scotty, Reggie and James. Did you know that Dean Martin had Barney?

Great stuff this one! Very rare. From Australia. Condition sufficient for HIFI-pleasure? Mono LPs in sufficient condition are hard to find here in Europe. Most of them were mistreated badly........
Wonderful music for a bright Ascension Day morning.......
But i have to be satisfied with my 1990 UK Castle issue with some mediocre Mono versions of "All or nothing", "Don't burst my bubble", "Hey girl", "Tell me have you ever seen me", "Tin Soldier", "Every litlle bit hurts" and "Wat'cha gonna do about it".
Our ears were not made to hear stereo, but we have learnt to accustom to it......Life is MONO! Anybody who listens to quadrophonic equipment?
Short people (remember the song by Randy Newman) with big instruments. Wonderful vocal harmonies. 7 titles in mono. Listen to keyboard playing by Ian McLagan. Top Mods excitement. Still sounds fresh and vital today.
Recorded at Record Plant, Sausalito, Calif. Juli-August 1974.
Skip Battin bass, voc, g, piano.
John Dawson voc, g
Neil Larsen kb
Mark Naftalin p
I like the cover art painting: did you know, that the Agave plant (also called "Century plant") only blooms once in it's lifetime after several decades of growing?
The historic R&B extravaganza that rocked the 1970 Monterey Jazz Festival. 2 LPs. Superb live recording dynamics. Esther Philips, Roy Brown, Eddie Cleanhead Vinson, Big Joe Turner, Shuggie Otis and many famous players.......You should have been there. I was not......

a find earlier this week, great stuff. it's an upgrade over my other copy.
First compilation. 2LPs. Without "Light my fire". But for collectors interesting because of 2 rare 45rpm B-sides: "Who scared you" and Willie Dixons "(You need meat) Don't go further" on tracks C5 and C6. Listen to the horns and guitar work on "Who scared you".
Tunes from the riverboat-studio. Producer Phil Manzanera together with DG. Listen to track A4 "A boat lies waiting" with Eno at the piano and Cosby&Nash vocals. Remember "Fat old sun" of Atom Heart Mother.
Jools Holland piano on track B3 "The girl in the yellow dress".
Dark birds and heavy weather on cover art. Beautiful guitar models in the booklet. DG always kept his guitar playing simple with maximum effect.
Moody.
A big one.
Gibson guitar sounds until forever. One of the greatest voices of rock music: Johnny Van Zandt. Long may live sweet home Alabama!

from this morning's estate sale finds. ex-Jethro Tull
Sunday morning music. Quo classics as you've never heard them before. My last year's favorite of the new albums. Look at the beautiful acoustic guitars on foldcover. Photographs made by Bryan Adams!
Listen to "Paper plane" on track A4 with the accordeon and the "Deutsche car".
You must love this one because it was made with a wink.
There were several reasons for buying this one:
1.) The Pink Floyd LP collection has to be completed.
2.) The booklet is simply beautiful
3.) The foldcover art is great (dedicated to Storm Thorgerson, 1944-2013): look at the empty boat on back cover painting.....
4.) The 2 LPs were pressed in virgin vinyl of 180gr weight
5.) The wonderful dynamics. Listen loud!
6.) The unforgettable Richard Wright (recorded and produced by Bob Ezrin in 1993) on most of the tracks!!
So it was a "must" for me to get this one.
One question: what shall a vinyl afficionado do with the added download voucher?
Great sound of those 45rpm maxi singles. Listen to "Anselma". Produced by T-Bone Burnett
Wilko Johnson g/voc and John Potter piano play hot pub-rock. In fact it's not the ideal music for this sunshine-sunday-morning. Listen to track A5 "First thing in the morning" in JJ Cale-style.
Found this one yesterday in my favorite record shop BRO Records in St. Gallen, Switzerland. Remembering Wilko Johnsons fantastic 2014 LP collaboration with Roger Daltrey:"Going back home".
Listen to the great piano playing by John Potter. Both Ex-Dr.Feelgood. How "Speakerlabfan" would write: smokin'!
Underrated/forgotten???
There comes no music out of this monster outdoor thing. Only smoke. And fine grilled meat.
Mother's Day. Sunny sunday morning. My wife says: this is a very wild one. Not the usual Mother's day music.
She is right.
Are there any women on this blog? Hey, give a reaction!!!!!
Magical history tour! "The Pusher" is still one of the biggest rock songs because of the seminal guitar riff. Forget "Smoke on the water"! Very very good US pressing. Still crazy after all these years.
Has anybody heard any news from John Kay? Great voice.
had a UK one a while ago, but she seems to have faded.
Bought this yesterday. 3 of us tried to figure out who the group was, but nobody got it. had to find the group name by searching on one of the song names. There was no catalog number and the disk had no info.

you can actually listen to full tracks on that link.
Has anybody heard any news from John Kay? Great voice.
Magical history tour No. 2: Mick Taylor guitar. Plus many members of Collosseum: still great after all these years. Recorded in only 4 days at Decca West Hampstead Studios, April 1968 by Mike Vernon.
Grabbed this one yesterday , by the pound :) (1/2 lb. @ $1.79 per)
Nice, somewhat mellow ... well recorded.
Magical history tour No3. Sandy Denny as Alexandra Elene MacLean Denny. Ian Matthews. Richard Thompson. Producer Joe Boyd.
Superb dynamics from this perfect english pressing. Listen to track B1 Joni Mitchell's "Eastern rain". Weird front cover painting.

one of several dozen nice jazz titles that I scooped for $1 each at an estate sale yesterday. w/ Charlie Haden - bass - thundering bass and Motian on drums. Lots of energy, and great sound quality.
Not typical for Pretty Things but it's an enchanted garden of psychedelica. Good dynamics. This nearly 50 years old vinyl LP is a pretty thing!
Taj Mahal - Music Keeps Me Together

terrific sound quality!
Found this one last week in perfect condition (also the foldcover looks new after more than 40 years) in my favourite record shop BRO Records in St. Gallen. I searched for this one since many years. I had to pay the price that we pay here in Switzerland for 3 Big Macs.
Listen to track A4 Jackson Browne's " These days". There's also a beautiful version of Richard Thompsons "Shady eyes" on track A3. Don't forget to dance to the version of the Randy Newman song " What are you waiting for" on track B3.
Mediocre Kinney dynamics.
Can you explain what "wheelhouse" means? Are you a sailor? I have a little sailing boat on the Bodensee, but there's no wheelhouse with LP's on it........
P.S. I don't eat Big Macs. I like selfmade food.
Yessss! And dance to it! Music keeps us together. Music keeps us (a little bit) younger. Music keeps us alive. Music is good for our mental health. Any further suggestions?
Look at the picture of the 1935 drawing "Alter Mann mit Gitarre" by Tamara DeLempicka from the Book by Stefanie Penck (Prestel Verlag München 2004).
Found last week in my favourite record shop BRO Records for only 2 SFr. in the dust bin. You pay for a coffee in the restaurant here the double price. Condition: much used and a little bit mishandled.
After washing it efficiently, the result is stunning: some acceptable scratches and joyful dynamics!
Listen to the Fats Domino song "Big fat" on track B2 and the V. Wolf title "Huautla" on B3. Anybody knows the writer V. Wolf of this song??? What means Huautla? Indian term?
Listen to Bob Hite introducing his musicians in track B6 "Down in the gutter but free".
Don't forget to boogie....
Swinging!
wheelhouse definition I don't eat fast food either.
I toured Lake Zurich with my kids a few years ago. a highlight were the topless beauties sunbathing along the canal, don't see that often enough in the US.
Congratulations on finding that Canned Heat LP.
I got out for a hike with family in the North Cascades this morning - aka "the American Alps". The trailhead for this hike is 1 hour drive from my house. In spite of the serious look on my face it was a great work-out, and we had a lot of fun!

listening to sides 3/4. Nice.
Rather worn out old english vinyl. The drums of Connie Kay nearly are not hearable anymore on the tracks of side A. But on "Bluesology" track B2 he is present very clear.
Did anybody ever notice the similarity of "Bluesology" and The Beatles' "Can't buy me love"?
Recorded by Rudy Van Gelder. Interesting liner notes by Ralph J. Gleason.
Many "important" informations about Stereophonic Records on inner sleeve. Remember the late 50ies? Look at my next post!
"Important" informations about the latest technical development in recording. 1959.
The handling instructions still are valid. And don't touch the vinyl with sticky fingers! Remember the Rolling Stones.
Similar to the early Elvis Costello recordings. Appropriate to the front cover picture: it's a fresh sound.
"Slay me with your 45". Track B2. Why do they?
Original 1956 Italian mono issue. Stunning discovery: also here nearly no notable appearance of Connie Kay, especially on side A.
I can't hear the drums......
So this fact seems to be due to recording conditions. Anybody has another explanation?
45rpm 12 inch maxi single. Typical for the 80ies. Not a highlight (judged from nowadays). Music publisher: "Trashsongs Ltd.".
At least they truly named it .....
History from second world war: song "Raoul" B6. About Raoul Wallenberg, Swedish diplomat who saved the life of thousands of Hungarian Jews in collaboration with Swiss diplomat Carl Lutz. A discovery. Not typical for a Nashville song, isn't it? History on LPs: interesting item for vinyl fans?!
Does anybody know further stunning historic items on LPs?
Many Nashville studio cracks are noted on backcover. Reggie Young, Larry Knechtel et al.
Impressive guitar lesson by James Burton. While my guitar (look at the added picture) gently weeps......
50 years ago!!!!!
60 years ago!!!!!! Or more. The best illustrated book about the Rolling Stones by Bill Wyman.
The ultimate biography by Keith Richards. Very very recommendable.
Big fun to read Ronnie Wood's autobiography!

Nice to hear Maddy Prior's voice. several songs here sound like they would have fit into Steeleye Span's playlist - example Queen Elenanor's Confession.
