I've got a K-140 with a dented dust cap. How do I remove the cap without getting further damage to the woofer? Is dissolving the glue with MEK an option? New caps and glue are laying besides me yet...

Hi Kay - I've done it 3 or 4 times using an exacto knife (new). Steady hand, very touchy. You've got to get down as close to the voice coil as possible without causing damage. Stuff tends to fall down into the gap. Scary business. Also, in my experience, the old glue will not dissolve - once it sets, the chemistry is permanent. I was successful, but honestly, if you know an experienced pro, it may be worth a few euros - tricks of the trade, etc.Quote:

I hope acetone or MEK won't affect the cone paper or the VC glue?

MEK can carry the glue into the cone, darkening it in the surrounding area.Quote:
