JBL L100T's woofer surrounds (I believe) need repair, appreciate some help. Pics.

Hi I'm hoping someone can answer my questions here. I have these JBL speakers and had not used them in quite sometime. Anyway I moved them across Canada on a semi and not sure how or when it happened but now the woofers look like the attached pic. I believe from reading that these are called the surrounds, not sure if I'm correct. Also I've found a kit on ebay to repair myself. I'm wondering if this is something I should attempt myself with the kit or seek out professionally. I've never done anything like it before, not sure how much there is too it or how the old bits come off etc.

If you attempt to do this at home, ensure you get the right size
surround (you will likely need to measure the cone diameter).

It's not terribly difficult if the driver is not otherwise damaged and
you take your time, thoroughly reading the directions.

Hiya! I got a pair of L100Ts earlier this year and the surrounds on them had gotten old with crumbling foam like yours have. That's normal behavior after about 9-12 years or so ... I've done a couple pairs of speaker before, and gotten good advice from the folks on this site - so I ordered a pair of surrounds from Rick, an ebay seller that I've had good luck with in the past ... he goes by the ebay name of Looneytune2001 ...

I got mine from him and its about the 3rd or 4th pair of surrounds I've gotten from him -
(my first kit was for a 2235 15 woofer in a B380 subwoofer I got from the local Craigslist)
his quality is good, there are directions on how to do it, and he provides a CD with audio tones to help center the cone when you are gluing the edges on ...
just contact him, tell him what you have and he'll help you get the right kit ...

Grumpy's link is how to go about it - take your time, glue the surrounds to the BACK of the woofer, give it 24 hours, and you'll be good to go

Thanks both of you, I took a good read through of the diy already and am going to get in touch with Rick on ebay...I'll definitely be able to do that, great diy.

I thought they were toast, I don't know anything about how speaker maintenance etc., just that I love these speakers...haven't tried to use them since I moved but I just remember being able to drive these things super loud if I wanted and the audio quality would remain, never got more tinny or whomp etc. Thanks again, this is awesome.

Bo's thread :). I just point and flap my gums. Glad that's useful now & then.

Make sure you carefully remove and keep the dark/dense foam strips
that set on top of the surround (same circumference as the mounting
screw holes)... you don't get those with the re-surround kit.
