Cross between 4315 and 4344?

OK - for fun, I've decided to gear up on building a cross between a 4315B and 4344, using a SUB 1500, 2012H, 2105H, and 2405H. Obviously, the crossover will be the biggest challenge, though I'm thinking of tri-amp, with passive for VHF. I guess it'd be more like the 4344, except smaller cabinet, and 2105H instead of the horn assembly. Is this way out of line, or might I actually get a decent full-range sound out of this? Or is this an exercise in futility?

Again, it's just for fun, and I can't really start on it for a month anyway, ('moving to new house). Input welcome...

I might hesitate to take the SUB 1500 up above 80 to 100 Hz. You'll have to try it and see what you think.

The 2404H might be better than the 2405H since it can cross over lower. I'll scan the Product Design Sheet for the 2105H and submit it to the Library so you can examine it. You might want to cross it over between 3 kHz and 6 kHz.

Giskard - no need to scan the spec sheet for the 2105H - I downloaded a copy from the JBL site.

Looking at the curves, you may be right about the 2404H vs. 2405H. Having never actually heard a 4315B, (with 2105H and 2405H), I just assumed the somewhat smoother on-axis response of the 2405H might sound better, but I notice JBL used an 8khz crossover in the 4315B - a little high maybe for the 2105H? I've also not heard a 2404H recently - in your opinion, is it better sounding for VHF than the 2405H? VHF is the only component I haven't already got, (just ordered a couple 2105H from Mike Caldwell).

Again - this isn't a do or die proposition - I've still got my L65A and L150 speakers to listen to. :)

See if you can borrow a pair of 2404H's to compare with your 077's.

I owned both the L65 and the 4315B. I liked the L65 well enough (love the enclosure design but ended up getting it off the floor) and really liked the 4315B. I built several pairs of each into walls of various homes and I have to say, mounting those baffles of either system up flush against the walls is the ticket. The funnest thing I ever did with the L65 was rebuild the system using a 2235H in a 5.0 cubic foot enclosure and putting the drivers in a vertical array. Didn't sound half bad! Surprising actually and the guy who requested them was happy so I guess that's what counts! It was his "poor man's" L300 as he refered to it.

Good idea. I've got two pairs of L65A, with two cabs stacked on each side, and those are sitting on top of an L150 each side, (yeah - 7' towers on each side of my fireplace - 'small room, until I move), so it'd be easy to do an A/B comparison, as long as I can get the 2404H hooked up and set up OK. Now I just need to find someone locally who's got a set they can part with for a few days sometime...

Not a very good picture - I had one grille cover off at the time, and the smudges on the left side are a camera artifact. The top pair is upside down, to get the highs closer together, (excuse the mess...).

I've got an A B C D speaker switch, so I can use any combination I want. I've also got a little set of J320A speakers for rear fill when desired, and S99 speakers for the bedroom...

I'm hoping the new cabs I'm thinking of putting together might take the place of all these big cabs I already have...
