I think you mean the round 8-pin connectors for the output boards when you say "octal umbilical". Yes, I had a look at them and used a little deoxid.
The input opamp is a LM318 in a round metal case. I could not find any replacement as an upgrade yet. I also think that the opamp is responsible for the typical sound of the BGW which I like together with my 4343.
