The foam/filt over the airgap

In the 2225/2245 and so on.. there is this foam/filt
over the airgap ventilation.

on some of the baskets this has fallen apart.

is this here becouse of the dust that can be blown
in to the magnetic gap?

can i take any other foam to put there now?

Rob , correct me here if I'm wrong, but some of these woofers use a metal mesh as a particle filter instead of the foam that disintegrates over time .
Is that part available? I've even seen what appears to be plastic mesh ( like dense mosquito netting ) used down at the bottom of the magnet vent . I just had a le10h reconed and my reconer glued in a porous small linen dustcap to replace the distintegrating foam type filter as a more permanent solution. Though, I don't think I would want this dustcap solution on a 2245 if it's going to hinder any "free & easy pumping action" .

the foam must be there just from preventing
dust entering the gap.

so anything can be used if it doent stop the air moving,
and not stopping the air when some dust has been catched in it ower some time..

Niklas is right; I've used a small square of grille cloth, stretched over the vent in one of these, and it worked fine... as long as it's porous enough for air to get thru, and fine-grained enough to stop most dirt, it'll do just fine.

An idea...

Take a hank of grille cloth , and sew or glue in an elastic "ring" the right size to fit over the magnet, and make a "sock" for the woofer magnet. Should work fine...

Heck, you could even just stretch the fabric over the woofer magnet, and nylon zip-tie it over the magnet, if you wanted a quick-and-dirty solution...
