Enclosure for Altec 412-8LF driver

Hi,

I need to build a box for 2x Altec 412-8LF drivers.
Problem is i don't have much floor space for them, height is ok though!.

The other speaker stacks in the soundsystem are four Altec 828 cabinets which are massive, 36" JBL lens horns with 2" dirvers for the mids, and 2405 tweeters. It's just that these new speaker boxes need to not take up much floor space

For the new stacks the mid driver/horn (JBL LE85 driver + JBL 2391 horn/lense) and tweeter (JBL 2405) will be in a separate enclosure.

I have been looking at the Altec 1233 for ideas for the 15" bass driver enclosure, but it's still too wide & deep for the location in needs to go in (I can have them as high as I want though)

the question is:
How can i change the dimensions of the enclosure whilst still creating a good sound for the 421-LFs?

so, to better understand, your desired end result cabinet is:

(in a thin/tall cabinet, as practical)
dual 421-8LFs
w/ LE85 and 2391 and 2405 as a modular 'top'

and some other speakers in the room are:
4 Altec 828 cabinets with ??? woofers,
JBL 2395s w/ 2" driver & 2405s

can you explain your set up, for the benefit of folks who are wondering?

so far the sound system consists of 4 stacks:

Low - 4 x ALTEC 828 CABINETS with 515-8GHP Drivers
Mid - 2 x JBL 2441 2" Drivers with JBL 2395 lense Horns + 2 x JBL 2441 2" Drivers with JBL 2390 lense Horns
High - 4 x JBL 2405 Tweeters

the additional stacks would be:

2 x ALTEC 816 CABINETS (?) with 421-8LF Drivers
2 x JBL LE75 1" Drivers (or JBL 2420 Drivers) with JBL 2391 lense horns
2 x JBL 2405 Tweeters

UREI 525 active crossover units are used throughout.

I have already built one ALTEC 816 CABINETS and it's good, but still huge (it takes up the same floor space as the 828 cabinet).
I did just get round to thinking though - what are the disadvantages to turning the 816 cabinet on it's side? that might save some room.
The alternative would be to build something more compact in terms of floor space used.

in addition to the stacks above there are also sub and high reinforcement speakers:

4 x LAB SUBS
4 x JBL 2405 Tweeters (hung in a cluster above the dancefloor)

(actually a bit more, right? I think that the 816s are just a little deeper than 816s?

you could just build up some more 825s or 828s....

yeah the 816 is a little deeper and wider than the 828.
i think if the 816 is turned on it's side then it will ok space wise.
but will the horn flares being turned through 90 degrees affect the sound appreciably?

i think i can handle building one more 816 cabinet, but not the idea of building two more 828's - i've still got to get round to recapping loads of amps yet!

you're not wrong about the disco influences - mainly the gallery soundsystem - not that i ever went... but hey. and richard long / rosner / scotty.
it's a good sound system for all sorts of music though... which is what we play, really lots of different music.
i'm sure there's a lot more accurate ways to replay music, but for a crowd of dancers this system is nice.
