Finished my L110 resto.
Hello to all, I have just finished restoring some L110's and thought you would all like to see. As usual, they were HAMMERED but I like a challenge. I figured out the grills and did them in blue because I think it looks like old school JBL even though they didn't come with blue originally. I repainted the LE111A's flanges and couldn't find the LE5-10's so I blacked out the flanges on a sweet pair of LE5-9's and shot lacquer over the top of the paint so it is really hard. I repainted the baffles and of course patched, faux grained and refinished the wood. I also painted the grill frames with Krylon's new Plastic Fusion paint and love the results. Every screw was first cleaned and repainted then coated with 2 coats of lacquer. I had Mr Marlon Balan, owner of MB Sound and speaker repair put new foam on the woofers too. I hope you enjoy the pictures.:D

You da man!
Amazing job of restoration, Steve.
With your inspiration, my project is now well under way. The L101/C56s are sitting in prototype 11" high MDF box stands. I'm at the listening stage now, just kicking back and enjoying the much better sound. More to come tomorrow I hope, along with some early pics.
Thanks pal.

Good David
I can't wait to see the finished product!, I'm glad the stands made some impovement, how much was the sand? ;)

Er, uhm, the sand, huh?
I swiped a pile from the neighbor's kid's sand box, but the wife says that there are more cats that use it than kids, so I had to take it back. http://audioheritage.csdco.com/vbull...yingsmiley.gif
Got to register the boys for baseball tomorrow AM, and then get a haircut. After that, it's dismantle the prototype, re-fab the back of the box to complete the seal, add the base assembly to match the exterior dimensions of the speaker cabinet, insuring that all joints are properly glued.
Then, when the assembly is complete and sand is poured into the base/box to dampen the bass and provide extra stability, I'll have to make a decision on the finish. I still have to get the Watco on the main unit, and then decide on the base color. Can't see trying to stain MDF, and am currently leaning to a flat black paint, which will allow the main cabinet to stand proud of the new base. The original small JBL base was also done in a flat black.
Any ideas or suggestions will be welcome. Just no cats please - the dog is making his position quite clear. It's Nipper or naught. http://audioheritage.csdco.com/vbull.../dont-know.gif
