well, not a movie,,,, but
.
now at 122 days at home. A friend turned me on to "Longmire" .... kind of put it in the back of my mind , but recently discovered it.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1836037/
Besides fine acting ( American Western modern day Sheriff is actually an Aussie) , writing (yeah, it's a western soap) ... it has really nice original music ... the themes are
guitar featured and nearly a character by themselves.
easy 9.5/10
Storyline
Walt Longmire is the charismatic, dedicated and unflappable sheriff of Absaroka County. Widowed only a year, Longmire is a man in psychic repair that buries his pain behind a brave face and dry wit. Struggling since his wife's death and at the urging of his daughter, Cady, Longmire knows that the time has come to turn his life around. With the help of Vic, a female deputy new to the department, he becomes reinvigorated about his job and committed to running for re-election. When Branch, an ambitious, young deputy decides to run against him for sheriff, Longmire feels betrayed but remains steadfast in his dedication to the community. Longmire often turns to close friend and confidant Henry Standing Bear for support as he sets out to rebuild both his personal and professional life, one step at a time. Written by A&E TV
Longmire became the "highest-rated original drama series" on A&E;[3] however, the network announced in August 2014 that it would not renew the series after the third season.[4] Warner Horizon Television offered it to other networks[5] and Netflix picked it up, starting with season four.[6] Netflix released the sixth and final season
Was it supposed to be a comedy ???
.
IF you are on Netflix , they are pushing "Da 5 Bloods" as #1 in the country. Reviews everywhere.
It had an OK premise and was a product of the renowned Spike Lee.
https://www.netflix.com/title/81045635 . Even the trailer wasn't too bad.
Four African American vets battle the forces of man and nature when they return to Vietnam seeking the remains of their fallen squad leader and the gold fortune he helped them hide.
So I gave it a try. The opening was merely well worn stock video clips . Marvin Gay
music is everywhere (not a bad thing) ... but then bad CGI Huey landing that turns into a plastic model when it crashes. A firefight where these 70 y.o. former soldiers get at least 100 shots out of a 20 shot magazine ... no brass is ever extracted. Even the lefty is never pummeled with casings. Every shot makes a big flash, despite having flash suppressors.
I could only handle 20 minutes.
Got some more time on it the next day. One of these 70 y.o's meets his old , fab wealthy GF from the war who is 40ish. Her surprise daughter from him is 30ish.
I could only handle 30 minutes this time.
Searching for gold bars (were to pay off Montengards ) in gold .... that they buried 50+ years ago .... they stop to take a break, one guys has to take a crap, he walks down the side of a hill and randomly stops to dig a hole for his waste and strikes a bar.
After 5 days, I finally got thru it.
The online reviews mention that it is made at a 1st year film school level.

If this is representative of the great Spike, think I'll pass on anything he does.
wish I could rate it lower than 1 out of 10 stars. :(
I'm not really fluent in Shakespearean English
.
but this DVD came with high recommendations.

my only real exposure has been a trip to The Shrine Auditorium in LA as a teen to view A Midsummer Nights Dream (was impressed) and Romeo & Juliet on DVD.
So I'm doing a lot of guessing at the dialog, but getting a lot ..tho NOT understanding why Joan (of Arc) was burned ???
The twists and turns of Palace intrigue shows the author to be a master, and it is my prediction that he will go far. ;)
